Ugly Betty: 3/5/09

I love Betty’s new guy, Matt!

He’s so cute!  He looks like Josh Groban!  I was worried when he kept forgetting his wallet, that he was a bum or something that just was taking advantage of Betty…Thank god that was farthest from the truth!  I hope things work out with this one…Betty deserves a good guy!  Altho next week his mother sure looks like she’s going to be a problem…

AI8 Top 13 Contestants

The Top 13 performance episode is in a couple of days…Thought I’d go thru each of the contestants:

ADAM:  Right now Adam is my favorite male contestant.  I love that he has a Broadway background, and his vocal range is ridiculous!  When he sang “Satisfaction” in the Top 36 round, I was blown away…I’ve never heard someone sing like that on AI, not to mention A GUY singing like that.  A lot of girls couldn’t even hit some of those notes that Adam hits.  The only thing about Adam is sometimes he can come across over-the-top/theatrical.  He just needs to watch that, but otherwise…I think he’ll be a very versatile contestant…Looking forward to what he’s able to do!

ALEXIS:  Alexis was in the first group of the Top 36.  That night she definitely was the best girl performer.  Her voice is so big for someone so small.  She’s definitely got that bluesy/soulful feel to her.  I think she’ll surprise a lot of people.  The one thing she needs to work on is her personality…She’s not irritating, but she’s not full of life either.  In her interview pieces she just seems very even-keel.  She’ll need to put in more personality if she’s going to win America over…Great singing won’t be enough.

ALLISON:  Allison was one f those where we didn’t see much of her until the Top 36.  She definitely wowed when she sang “Alone”…For 16 years old to be so comfortable on stage!  She’s got that nice growl of a voice, but she still hasn’t won me over.  Her voice is still so raw that I feel she needs to improve a bit more.  I think she’ll be one of those that you’ll definitely see progression over the season…If she can keep progressing and also add a likeableness to her, she’ll be a contender.  Her interviews haven’t been the most interestiing, which I think has to do with her age.

ANOOP:  Anoop is definitely a fan favorite.  He was one during the auditions where you look at him and think…American Idol?! I don’t think so.  Then you hear him sing and you’re like…Hmm, not bad.  His voice doesn’t match is face, and his personality is what got him to the Top 13.  Don’t know if I can call him the next American Idol, but I like him and hope he does well…

DANNY:  You all know how I feel about Danny.  He’s a good singer, but to me, he’s overrated.  He got SO MUCH airtime leading up to the Top 36, he could’ve sang the ABC song and people would’ve voted for him.  I do feel for him because of what happened with his wife, but…How many times do we need to hear/see about it?  I do feel that he has a big of a “I know what I’m doing” when it comes to songs/singing…Being a church choir director, he’s used to telling people how to do things.  I’m sure he’s a great guy, but I think he peaked really early and more and more he’s starting to irk me.

JASMINE:  Jasmine was the suprise pick for the Top 13.  She hasn’t really wowed at all with her performances, and she’s only 16, which shows in her singing.  The biggest thing she’s got going for her is her look.  She’s very put together and she looks good.  She may be another one that just needs to improve and she could make an impact, but I don’t know if there’s enough time for that.

JORGE:  Once again, I think most of you know how I feel about Jorge.  I just don’t like him.  I know it’s not his fault that he has the accent, but I don’t like to hear it coming out when he’s singing.  He can definitely sing, and he’s got a big voice, but…His crying and emotion are just annoying.  Plus, it IS called AMERICAN Idol, and he’s just not it.

KRIS:  You gotta give it to this guy…Having NO airtime whatsoever going into the Top 36, but yet making it into the Top 3 for that week!  Good job!  But we ALL know why he was voted in…HE’S GOSH DARN CUTE!  He is quite the looker, and don’t tell me that doesn’t push him up in the ranks solely based on that…He actually does have a decent voice tho…And he kinda impressed me holding out some of those notes.  I’m totally fine with him being in the Top 13…After all, we need some “eye candy” there…Oh, P.S. He’s married!  :-(

LIL ROUNDS:  Lil Rounds is another person who the judges just can’t say enough about, but yet I feel she’s a bit overrated.  She can definitely sing, but she isn’t as impressive as other people have been before.  The one thing I’ll give her tho is the fact that she’s so comfortable when performing, you do kind of feel like she’s already an established artist.  She also has a pretty likable personality.  She will definitely do well in the competion…Her being in the minority will actually help her too.

MATT:  The judges always loved Matt, but that Top 36 week when he sang Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” was just horrible.  Ever since then he’s started to irk me because he said that week that that’s the kind of music he wants to record.  Hello?  Where did that come from?  Up until that point, he was the bluesy guy, then he pulls out Coldplay?!  Then, because the judges basically TOLD him what he needs to do in the Wildcard in order to get in, he does it…It’s annoying and he’s not staying true to who he is.  Not one of my favorites at this point.

MEGAN:  Right now, she’s my favorite female contestant.  I liked her in her initial audition, and she still stood out for me in the Top 36.  I love the tone of her voice…It’s so different.  Her personality is very cute and likable.  Looking like Reese Witherspoon helps too.  And altho some people might say she’s weird because of her “dance moves,” I think it adds to her appeal.  She just stays herself and doesn’t care what it looks like.  I’m glad the judges noticed her and feel she needs to be in the Top 13.  It’ll be a challenge for her to do the different themes, but I’m looking forward to seeing her every week!

MICHAEL:  I remember liking him in the audition rounds, but when he performed in the Top 36, I was not impressed.  He didn’t pick the right song but it’s really his personality/story that pulls him through.  It was a shock when he made it into the Top 3 that week.  He’s really gonna have to step it up this week if he wants to stick around.

SCOTT:  We all knew that Scott would just sail thru Top 36 week.  He definitely has to overcome setbacks that others don’t, but his passion and enthusiasm really gives him his edge.  It’ll be really interesting to see how he handles the performance aspect every week…He can’t be sitting behind his piano every week…That’ll get old real fast.

It’s a real wide variety of people in the Top 13 this season.  I don’t like how it’s so uneven tho…8 guys vs. 5 girls…But that may actually help the girls who are there out a bit…The guys will start to all blend together since there’s so many of them.  Each of the contestants will now have the stylist too, so I’m sure some of them will come out much more “glam”…I’m looking forward to it!

Dancing with the Stars: Melissa dancing!

Since Nancy O’Dell had to withdraw from the new season of Dancing with the Stars (which starts tomorrow, Monday 3/9), guess who’s taking her place?!

The Bachelor’s Melissa!

I guess with all the buzz about what happened, DWTS really jumped at the chance of bringing her on.  Umm….She was a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader (dancer)!  Hello?  Previous experience w/dancing?  In any case, I personally am interested in seeing her dance…!

American Idol Rewind: AI4

AI Season 4 (Carrie’s season!) is being shown on American Idol Rewind every Saturday afternoon @ 4 pm on FOX.  I know, it’s such a random timeslot, but it’s really cool…They recap the entire season all over again, including 2009 interviews w/the idols.  Because it’s Carrie’s season, I’m totally watching it.

It’s really cool to relive these episodes…I totally forgot what people sang, what happened.  It’s really neat to see the interviews where the idols look back on their experience, tell you what they were feeling/going thru at the time.  They all look so much younger and more…naive…:-)  Especially Carrie:

Really kinda makes me miss that season, just ’cause I still haven’t found someone I liked on Idol as much as Carrie…But who knows…Maybe Season 8 will be the one…On the other hand, I’m fine with Carrie still being my #1 idol. :-)
