AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 7/13/10: Sally Cohn

I know what you guys are going to say…Seriously?! Sally?! But come on…she HAND WHISTLED MARIAH CAREY’S “HERO”! That is SUCH a difficult song to SING, let alone WHISTLE! Gotta give her credit for that one.  Love Piers’ little jab at Nick about how Sally’s version was the BEST and MOST IN-TUNE version he’s ever heard (*cough* Mariah *cough*). :)

I will say that if she didn’t have her little “chat” time with the judges every time, her “act” wouldn’t be NEARLY as enjoyable for me. I do feel that the hand whistling IS a talent, but it’s really her personality and comments that really do it for me. She’s hilarious…and so cute! I mean…she’s 75 YEARS OLD! Go Sally!

On a serious note, I KNOW she SHOULDN’T win…but FOR NOW, I’m fine with her still being there. I enjoy watching her and wait to hear what she’ll say next. ;)

I thought it was entertaining, but she is taking one of ONLY four slots if she stays. She’s has to have vegas potential to headline a complete show. As much as I like her and give her credit for her talent and age, I’m thinking she won’t make it through tonight although you never know.

True. Only 4 spots left. But to be honest, how many of the ones that actually make it have the potential/deserve to win the WHOLE THING?! Just like Idol, there’s really only a handful of acts that deserve to WIN…the others are just space-fillers, so might as well put in ones that are AT LEAST entertaining.

DON’T WANT the juggler reject or the crooner to get in. They were NOT impressive to me at all. I didn’t mind the tap dancers…but I don’t know how much of America can appreciate tap dancing, to be honest. The girl dance group was just…eh. Didn’t even want them to make it this far. Nothing special. Anyone else you liked/didn’t like?

What about the cute guy singer at the end who was sick? I didn’t think he was that good, but the judges thought he was a shoo it because of his good looks. Not sure how the people vote.

I think the sisters with CP did a much better job tonight. I wouldn’t count them out for this round. I don’t think they will make it to the end, but voters on this show tend to go with their emotions rather than strictly talent. The younger sister is pretty good.

With future funk and fightly gravity just about sealing their spots, that leaves just two openings. Blaming my short term memory loss, who else was there?

    • Er Says:

Nate, the cute last singer was OK. He was SO NERVOUS. Poor thing. But that’s part of what I do like about him…that means he’s humble and doesn’t have a big head. I think he has potential…and he definitely is good looking. Girls will “eat him up,” so I wouldn’t count him out either.

The sisters were not bad. Yes, the younger sister is MUCH better than the older one. They had some good moments, but overall I really don’t think they’re that great. But like you said…and like every other voting show…America doesn’t only vote on talent…that’s for SURE. So you never know.

There was also the kung fu guys. Don’t remember them in the audition rounds. They were OK…nothing outstanding, except for their very “ripped” bodies. :P

Sorry, don’t like the hand whistling act!!
What do you think about the sexy artist? Didn’t like the underwater twist this time. You couldn’t see the art as well, too. Plus, wasn’t it elvis she was drawing? Did Pierce (sp) really think it was him or was he just joking?

here’s my pick for the 4 chosen:
    future funk
gravity act (sorry, I’m not a huge fan)
    sisters
    tap dancers

don’t think the tap dancers will make it, but i liked them! I don’t think that the cute sick guy was good at all! Cute, though. For some reason, the show seems to be pushing for him- Putting him in the last spot and giving him a pass because he was “sick.”

I agree the underwater thing didn’t work quite as well. I seriously thought that she was going t paint the WHOLE THING in one breath! Silly me. :) Yeah, the paint didn’t quite work as well underwater. I don’t think Piers realized it was him until Nick said something…

I think the show likes that Nate is the typical “from a small town…humble…nervous all the time” contestant. Plus he would be SO marketable ’cause he’s so cute. :)

Oh man…not a Fighting Gravity fan?! How come?! I think they’re awesome! I would actually love to see how they do their act…like if they could show them doing their thing with the lights ON. There’s SO MANY guys up there, but yet you only really see like 3 guys…and all those fluorescent balls.

  4. NL Says:

Haha! I thought exactly like you did, Erin. From the way the painter described her act, I thought she was going to do it in one breath, but that would have been a feat in itself! And didn’t Nick or someone say something like she didn’t even breathe underwater to imply that she did do just that? Of course she didn’t breathe underwater…she came up so many times to spin and take a breath, but I have to admit it was entertaining and she did keep my attention the whole time. Kristen, I wrote about it being elvis, too! :)

I am pretty captivated with fighting gravity. It’s not real “talent” per se, but it’s a very innovated act. Whoever thought of it is pure genuis. Just seeing those tennis balls moving around, everything synchronized more or less is pretty amazing. When the lights went on the first time I saw them, it really did surprise me to see how many of them there were. VERY, very slick act and whoever choreographs the moves is also outstanding.

Tap dancers and Kung Fu were okay, but they don’t hold my attention.

What’s there NOT to like about them, Kristen?

    • Er Says:

Yeah, Maricar came up WAY too many times…totally made it all choppy! But I did want to see the end result.

I think Fighting Gravity’s “act” IS a talent. They have to choreograph their moves, have pretty much exact timing…all while doing it in the dark! It’s tough! ESPECIALLY because there’s SO MANY guys who have to synchronize to each other! With that many guys, WAY more chance of errors/getting out of synch.

  5. NL Says:

I see your point about fighting gravity having talent. Somehow I think of “talent” as something that had to be practiced a lot (like tap dancing, singing…not all singers, though, juggling, magic, even hand whistling, etc.)and these guys said they just got together and decided to do something just for the fun of it. But you are right, i guess the best word for it is talent. There’s another word to describe what they have and it’s on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t quite place my finger on it. I DO think they are fascinating and fantastic!

    • Er Says:

Hmm…trying to figure out the word you’re thinking of to describe them. I’m so glad you like them too! :)
