They couldn’t promote this show enough…it was EVERYWHERE! From the first time I saw the ad/preview for the show, I already wanted to check it out since it stars Dana Delany, who I liked (and miss) on Desperate Housewives.
After watching the premiere, I give it a…THUMBS UP!
I liked it!

The show revolves around Dana’s character, Megan Hunt. She was a famouse/very successful neurosurgeon…until she got into a car accident which left her with a “disability” in her hands…where they go numb. To the point where she was doing a surgery and ended up killing a patient when her hands “acted up.” So now she’s a medical examiner in Philadelphia, PA.
Megan is ONE SASSY lady. She is DEFINITELY confident, that’s for sure. To the point where she’s almost cocky. But I like that in her. She’s SO observant about things that she sees and dead body and can pretty much immediately give cause of death and details of the death as well. Besides just examining the bodies/doing the autopsies, Megan seems to really want to help SOLVE their murder cases, etc. Mainly because of what happened with her accident/killing a patient, at at time she really was very cold and couldn’t care less about the person. Now she makes it a point to pay attention/get to know the people/their lives. So it FEELS like she’s more of an investigator than an ME. She tends to “poke around” more than the ACTUAL investigators/police want her to.
And she’s very persistent.
She works very closely with Peter Dunlop (played by Nicholas Bishop), who is a former police officer who’s now a medicolegal investigator. He and Megan have been working together for about 6 months, and he’s SORT OF her only friend/confidante at the moment. I really like him! He understands her and tries to help her without bossing her around/getting in her way. He reminds me of a mix of Simon Baker (The Mentalist) and James Tupper (Anne Heche’s boyfriend).
On the personal side, Megan has been divorced for 5 years and has a 12-yr old daughter Lacey, who she really has a hard time getting close to. Her husband divorced her and got full custody, claiming Megan’s job kept her from being a good/attentive mother. So Megan’s slowly trying to create a relationship with Lacey. This gives Megan the human side, which you really don’t see when she’s working. In other words, when she’s working, she comes across as a bit of a b****.
But it’s all good.
The other notable in this show is Jeri Ryan, who plays Megan’s boss. She barely had a part in this episode tho, so we’ll see if they develop her character a bit more. I sure hope they do.
I think Dana is GREAT in this role. Parts of her character remind me a lot of the character she played on DH, Katherine. She’s a bit tough and guarded on the outside, but you know she has a heart/is vulnerable on the inside. Not to mention she looks great…I like her wardrobe. Nice stuff!
This kind of show…with the whole medical examiner/dead bodies thing is usually not my thing…but now that I watch CSI: NY as well, I think I’m used to the whole death/gore thing a bit more. That exposure definitely helps with this show. Altho really it’s not very gory at all…at least not yet. They focus more on the investigation part of the case. Solving the crime!
Totally would recommend this show…it’s a good watch! Give it a chance!
Worth your while…at least in my opinion.
