ONCE UPON A TIME 10/30/11: 1.02 “The Thing You Love Most”

This episode was better than the pilot.  Mainly because now that everything is pretty much set up, we can really start getting into the storylines…

I really liked this episode because it focused on/gave us more insight into the Evil Queen/Mayor Regina.  Also we got more information about the curse…

NEW INFORMATION:

  • The Evil Queen got the curse initially from Rumpelstiltskin, traded it with Malificent, then stole it back from her. Love that they introduced another new character in Malificent.  I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ve seen of her…
  • CAN’T believe the Evil Queen would KILL her OWN FATHER in order to activate the curse.  The ONE “thing” she loved THE MOST… :(
  • Aww…Regina’s son Henry is named after her/the Evil Queen’s father.
  • Mr. Gold (aka Rumpelstiltskin) has control over the Mayor without her even really knowing it because of the deal Rumpelstiltskin made with the Evil Queen.  He also was the one who “found”/got Henry for the Mayor in the first place.
  • Now Emma knows that Ms. Blanchard is actually Snow White…or in other words, her mother!

QUESTIONS:

  • Does Rumpelstiltskin KNOW what’s going on in Storybrooke?  He sure SEEMS like he knows SOMETHING…
  • WHAT IN THE WORLD could Snow White have done to the Evil Queen to make her SO BITTER?!  I WANNA KNOW!

The Evil Queen/Lana Parrilla is really intriguing.  I’m kinda loving finding out more about her, and I think once we find out the real story behind what happened between the Queen and Snow, I’m thinking we’re going to feel for the Queen a little.  Right now she seems so mean and malicious, but I’m SURE there’s a LOT more to that story.

Loving this show…some answers to questions, but still so many questions as well!

GLEE CAST: Happy Halloween! + *POLL*

Darren Criss

Lea Michele

PRIVATE PRACTICE 10/27/11: 5.05 “Step One”

  • While the whole Cooper & Mason father/son thing is cute, and we all know that Coop is gonna be REALLY involved with Mason, I’m actually more interested in seeing how Charlotte is going to deal with this whole thing.  Talk about really throwing a wrench into Coop & Charlotte’s newlywed time.  They JUST got back on good ground with each other.  Plus Charlotte REALLY didn’t want to have any kids right now (or was it ever?), but now she doesn’t really have a choice.  Should make things interesting…

  • While Amelia’s storylines usually irritate me, this one was QUITE emotional and dramatic.  I like how they kind of had set this story up a long time ago, then they brought it back to the forefront.
  • Thank GOD Amelia DIDN’T actually kill her.  I don’t think she’d be able to live with herself if she did.  Altho the part where she was about to do it, then the girl had that bad reaction to the medication…that was pretty scary.
  • So not Amelia’s spiraling downhill.  If she’s reacting this badly to the fact that her friend ended up killing HERSELF, just think what her reaction would be if AMELIA HERSELF did it?  Man…
  • I think it’s REALLY ODD that Addison is having JAKE administer all her shots for her in vitro stuff.  Obviously asking Sam would be awkward, but…Jake seems even MORE awkward.  And now he’s going to be her fertility specialist?!  Where’s Naomi when you need her?!
  • Still NOT LOVING the whole Jake thing.  Guess he’s going to have an even BIGGER role now that he’s Addy’s doctor.  Ugh.  Just gotta wait out this storyline I guess.  Altho the Sam/Addison whole “can Sam handle if Addison gets pregnant” thing is starting to bug as well.
  • It was nice to see Pete & Violet actually have a “moment” in this episode.  Altho honestly, Pete has been acting like SUCH an a** lately, I almost don’t want Violet to let him back in.  He kinda needs to suffer a little to realize just how much he hurt her/how bad he was acting.

NEW SHOW: Once Upon A Time

Been waiting for this show ever since they started showing the promos months ago.  I just thought it was going to be such a DIFFERENT kind of show…and boy was I right!

This is actually a very tough show to try to explain, but here goes:

The basic gist is that many of the fairytale characters we know and love (Snow White, Prince Charming, Jiminy Cricket, Geppetto, etc) get a curse put on them by the Evil Queen.  They are banished to Storybrooke, Maine, where time stands still and they are no long fairytale characters, but “regular people.”  AND they DON’T remember AT ALL that they actually are/used to be fairytale characters.

Emma Swan is a “regular person” who was never a fairytale character who lives in Massachusetts.  She actually is the real daughter of Snow White & Prince Charming.  She luckily was sent to “the real world” BEFORE the curse was put on Fairytale Land, so she is not cursed like her parents, etc.  She doesn’t know she’s Snow White’s daughter until a little boy Henry, who is her biological son, comes into her life and drags her to Storybrooke.  He tells her the whole story and says she’s the only one who can save all the fairytale characters from the curse.  She sorta gets convinced of the story and decides to hang around Storybrooke for a while to figure things out/see what’s really going on.

The other interesting twist is the the Evil Queen is ALSO living in Storybrooke…and she’s the MAYOR of the town.  Go figure huh.  Not only that, but she’s the ADOPTED MOTHER of Henry.  Crazy huh?  She and Emma have a heated argument/discussion in this first episode, so already they’re kinda like “enemies.”

I am LOVING the incorporation of all the fairytale characters.  The show goes back and forth between Fairytale Land and Storybrooke, so it’s fun to point out all the fairytale characters in Storybrooke.  The ones I’ve spotted in the “real world” so far:

  • Snow White
  • Prince Charming
  • Evil Queen
  • Rumpelstiltskin
  • Grumpy (the dwarf)…at least I THINK it was him
  • Geppetto
  • Pinocchio
  • Jiminy Cricket (altho he’s a human in Storybrooke ;) )
  • Little Red Riding Hood & Granny (they run Granny’s bed & breakfast)
  • The Wolf (from Red Riding Hood)…I assume it’s him.  How many famous wolves are from any other fairytales?

The show, which was created by the same guys who did LOST, definitely leaves us with a lot of questions.  The main questions I have after watching the pilot:

  • If the Queen was PUNISHING all the fairytale characters by banishing them to Storybrooke, why did SHE HERSELF go too?  So she’s punishing herself as well?
  • In Storybrooke DOES the Mayor/Queen know who she really is?  Or is she just as “clueless” as everyone else?  You figure if this is HER curse, she should be able to have control over it, which would mean she KNOWS what’s going on.  At the end of the episode when she grabs the book and looks in the mirror, the expression on her face gives you the impression that she DOES know…but they haven’t confirmed it.
  • HOW did she just HAPPEN to adopt Henry?  I mean, QUITE a bit of a coincidence that she’d be raising her worst enemy’s (Snow White) grandson…
  • HOW does Henry know so much?  Can’t be JUST from the fairytale book right?  Just because the book contains all the stories, how did Henry know the stories related to Storybrooke and that the characters are actually related to HIM?!

This first episode was quite a lot to take in…and was a bit confusing…but I really like it!  It really is SO DIFFERENT from any other show on right now, and the blending of fairytales and real life is pretty awesome stuff.  If you can, try to watch this show.  May take a few episodes to really get into it, but it’s such a creative backdrop that it’s SO worth giving it a try…

If you can, please comment!  Would LOVE to hear what people are thinking about this show…

GLEE CAST: 300th Musical Performance 10/26/11

The Glee cast celebrated their 300th musical performance on the show today…!  Can you believe they’ve done THAT MANY musical numbers already?!  Pretty awesome!

THE X FACTOR 10/25/11: Top 17 Performances + *POLL*

Now that the Top 12 have been announced, here are my favorites:

MARCUS CANTY:

  • To be honest, my favorite was Phillip Lomax, but since LA CUT him, Marcus is now my favorite guy.  He doesn’t sing the type of music I would BUY, but of the remaining guys, at least he’s a good SINGER.  I’m NOT a fan of rappers, so I can’t back Chris or Astro.  Plus Marcus seems like a good/nice guy.

LAKODA RAYNE:

  • Kinda LOVING Lakoda Rayne.  I still can’t believe they WEREN’T a group initially.  Their voices blend SO WELL together, plus they LOOK so good together.  Not to mention I’m loving the country twang. :)   They were HANDS DOWN my favorite group for sure.  I would totally buy their album.

JOSH KRAJCIK:

  • Josh was my favorite guy coming in to this round, and that DEFINITELY HASN’T CHANGED.  Wow.  His performance was SO VULNERABLE and SHOWY.  Great job.  Plus he’s so cute when he’s not singing…when he’s standing there smiling.  I just wish he would change his hair.  If he had a clean cut look, that would make him that much more appealing, imo.  But so far, LOVE HIM.

DREW RYNIEWICZ:

  • Drew. Wow. Only 14 years old. AMAZING.  Plus she’s so cute.  I’m just so impressed with how MATURE she is with her singing.  And I LOVE all the lifts she does with her singing.  Plus she can belt.  It’s just…WOW.  Now all we have to do is see her perform a real upbeat song.

MELANIE AMARO:

  • Melanie, Melanie…You are definitely the showstopper.  Perfect song choice, albeit a predictable one…but that’s what she does best — power ballads.  She’s got that big booming voice.  Again, what I love about Melanie is her genuineness and humbleness.  That plays a big role in her likability/accessibility to America.  When she broke down at the end of her performance, I just felt for her.  After everything she’s been thru in this competition…now singing last in tonight’s show…Talk about overwhelming.  But she proved why she deserved to be there.

RESULTS:

The results in general were pretty predictable…and overall the right choices EXCEPT for the boys — still think Phillip should’ve stayed.  But the girls group was definitely the TOUGHEST call…mainly because I was worried Simon would keep ONE of those girls JUST to make a point.  But thank goodness he came to his senses!  The one thing about Simon…he DOES listen to AMERICA.  He’s not dumb enough to keep someone just cause HE likes them, but America DOESN’T.  Phew.

Next week’s Top 12 should be a GREAT SHOW!  It’s a great group of contestants!  Can’t wait!

PRIVATE PRACTICE 10/20/11: 5.04 “Remember Me”

  • Wow. So Cooper really does have a son.  I can’t believe he wasn’t going to do a paternity test at first.  HELLO?!  I don’t blame Charlotte for what she did. Cooper is obviously a little vulnerable because of Mason.  It did seem kind of odd that the mother waited like 9 years before she just pops up out of nowhere and springs this on Cooper.  Talk about a great hurdle to throw in Cooper & Charlotte’s marriage.
  • Pete is being SUCH an a**.  I understand that he’s going thru stuff because of his heart attack and recovery…and Violet can be a bit hovering…but that doesn’t excuse his attitude.  Glad that Sheldon stood up for Violet and told Pete off a bit.
  • Felt bad for Sheldon that Violet was almost accusing Sheldon of CONVINCING that husband to leave his amnesic wife.  Since he had to take over all of Violet’s patients, must be hard to have to just jump in like that.
  • A bit awkward that Addison went to Jake to ask his advice about Sam.  Yeah…Sam & Addison are going to have a hard time lasting with this baby situation.  I wonder if they’re going to start & end every episode this season with Addison talking to her therapist?  So far, that’s what they’ve been doing…

REVENGE 10/19/11: 1.05 “Guilt”

This episode was different from previous ones because there wasn’t a “victim of the week.”  A familiar face, Lydia, was brought back and the storyline kind of revolved around her.  Which was kinda nice because we’re a little more invested in her character since she’s been around since the first episode.

So I’m a bit confused.  Was Conrad STILL having an affair with Lydia?  ‘Cause he told Victoria that he was only doing what he was doing to protect her.  But yet he was still spending a lot of time with her.

Once again, how LUCKY was Emily that Nolan keeps butting into her plans?!  If he didn’t put that hidden camera in, he wouldn’t have accidentally seen that Lydia recognized Emily in the picture of her and Victoria!  Nolan may be a bit irritating sometimes, but boy does he sure come in handy! ;)

How much longer is Daniel’s friend gonna be hanging around?  He’s still irritating me.  And how can Daniel not see what he’s doing?!  Come on man!  Wise up!

OMG…can’t believe what happened to Lydia.  Was Frank really going to kill her if she didn’t fall over the balcony like she did?!  I suppose so since he didn’t make ANY effort to try to save her when she fell over.

So it WASN’T Emily who set up all that information in Lydia’s apartment incriminating her?!  I’m confused.  Or did she set up all that info, but Frank messed everything up by being there and confronting Lydia?  I thought the only part Emily was orchestrating was sending Nolan to grab that fax with Emily/Amanda’s name on it.

I seriously don’t think Emily wants to KILL anyone, so I can see where in this case, plans did not go smoothly.  Up until now, all of Emily’s plans have gone the way she wanted, so the fact that this one didn’t may be a turning point in this show…?
