DROP DEAD DIVA: Season 3 Finale

Wow, that was SOME finale!

The main thing we need to discuss is…and pretty much the only thing is…GRAYSON KNOWS?!  I’m SO SURPRISED they took the storyline that way.  I thought that once Grayson found out that Jane was Deb, the show would be OVER!  I mean, Jane doesn’t know YET, so I guess things could STILL happen, but… The sad thing is that when Jane decided to go to Paris…and then Owen surprised her and joined her…I would’ve been SO HAPPY for Jane!  Except now knowing that Grayson just found out Jane’s secret, I was TORN!  Obviously we want Jane & Grayson to get together after all this time…but on the other hand, I really like Owen!  I think he’s a great match for Jane!  Argh!

How are they going to tackle Season 4?!  Should be QUITE interesting…

DROP DEAD DIVA 8/28/11: 3.10 “Toxic”

Patti Stanger…the Millionaire Matchmaker!  Gotta love the guest stars!  Cool how they used a variation of what she normally does into the storyline!  And Terri got a frontburner story/case this week too!  They’ve shown Terri’s mom before in the first season, but this time she had a much bigger part.

I’m kinda liking this new judge guy.  With her having to “suffer” through Grayson dating other women, it was about time she started dating another guy.  Although he’s a bit “confident,” this guy is actually quite cool and likable.  Should be interesting to see where this relationship goes…

How lucky was that guy that Jane saw him standing on the ledge of that building ready to jump?!  It was so touching how Jane fought tooth & nail to help prove he wasn’t crazy…And to save those kids!  Yay!

DROP DEAD DIVA 8/21/11: 3.09 “You Bet Your Life”

Just some quick thoughts about this week’s episode…which was a pretty good one…some touching moments:

  • So Kim & Parker…a couple once again.  That didn’t take long.  Kim & Parker are definitely a better match than Kim & Grayson were.
  • After everything Kim & Parker did to help the botanist…and she screwed them over in end?!  That was a killer…and SO DISAPPOINTING.  I was saying earlier in the episode that I really felt for the doctor when she talked about just HOW MUCH that plant, Louis XV, meant to her.  What a FARCE.  Ugh.
  • Fred & Grayson’s “male bonding” time was…EXPECTED.  How did Jane think Fred could “keep an eye” on Grayson?!  Interesting how Grayson was attracted to someone similar to Deb.  Guess at least he’s consistent.  Was funny that Cassie with the tramp stamp seemed pretty “trampy” at the bar…but when she came to the office she looked so much more wholesome.
  • Jane’s case with the sorority leader ended up being pretty touching.  It was sweet when Jane was given that sorority pin at the end of the episode. Aww…

DROP DEAD DIVA 8/14/11: 3.08 “He Said, She Said”

I thought this was a great episode.  A lot going on, and some pretty interesting cases.

  • While I still love all the celebrity guest appearances, it was interesting to cast Kathy Griffin as Kim’s sister.  Didn’t quite match, but still great to see a familiar face.
  • Actually, because Kathy’s character was quite unlikable, it really did make Kim look like the “good girl.”  It was great what Kim did for her niece and her former brother-in-law with the clock and the diamonds.  Good job Kim!
  • Jane’s case about the university cheerleader was quite interesting and a bit disturbing.  The girl who played the victim was from High School Musical!  I can’t believe football players are THAT dumb where they’d make a “conquest” list including VIDEOS like he did.  HELL-O!
  • Seeing Jane & Grayson at ODDS like they were about this case was so…WEIRD.  Did NOT enjoy it when they had a full-on argument in the middle of the office!  I couldn’t understand HOW Grayson could be so AGAINST Jane like that!  Thank goodness he came to his senses!
  • I love that they keep Deb’s mom present in Jane’s life.  Bobbie’s relationship with Jane is just so sweet!  I hope they continue to have Bobbie pop in to Jane’s life every now and then!

DROP DEAD DIVA 6/19/11: 3.01 “Hit and Run”

Can’t believe we’re in Season 3 of DDD already!  It sure feels like a long time since last season…

I do think it’s pretty hilarious how they now put in musical numbers into the show.  Brooke Elliott (Jane) has a great voice tho (she came from the stage/Broadway)…so I’m glad she gets to showcase it!  Plus I think Kate Levering (Kim) is also a theatre girl/dancer, so it’s nice she can showcase that side of her as well.

Umm…you know how I love guest stars/cameos?!  This episode had quite a few!

Altho I’m not nearly as big a fan of hers as I used to be (mostly because of all her marital issues/drama), I thought LeAnn Rimes did a pretty good job as the bitchy wife.  And hey…she had a pretty important role…she was the ultimate convicted one!  She matched the role well, and her acting (altho pretty minimal) was pretty decent.

Wendy Williams was another one who I’m not the biggest fan of (mainly because of how she was on DWTS…not the most likable), but her role as the judge in the “false advertising” case was pretty funny.  Nice that she was able to add that bit of comedy to the case.  Gotta love that billboard! ;)

As for Jane, I felt really bad for her about the whole Grayson thing.  Altho you KNEW he wouldn’t remember what happened before the accident.  That would’ve been WAY too easy.  Now we’ll have a whole ‘nother season of Jane pining away for Grayson…altho this season will be even TOUGHER since he’s planning his WEDDING.  And Jane is the “best man.”  Umm…can you say AWKWARD?!

DROP DEAD DIVA 8/1/10: 2.08 “Queen of Mean”

I haven’t really blogged about this show much this season, but this past week’s episode was one of my favorite ones of the season!

  • The show seems to enjoy putting in these musical dream sequences.  This “Thunder from Down Under” one was pretty sexy…and pretty hilarious as well.

You all know how much I LOVE celebrity guest appearances on shows, and this episode had a BUNCH!

  • Cybill Shepherd!  Nice!  Her character reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada, but the character she played was much more complex than they made her out to be.  I liked that there was a bit of a twist in there when Ellie decides to all of a sudden to drop the case against her assistant.

  • Another guest appearance was by Candis Cayne!  I loved her on Dirty Sexy Money, so it was nice to see her again!  She got to play a very “real” character for her…a transsexual.  It was a bit of an “odd” case, but SO touching at the end with her father-in-law.  I have to admit I teared up there when he came to give her that gift.

  • The last notable guest appearance was by Laura Breckenridge.  Not sure how many of you watched the WB show Related, about the 4 sisters…but Laura played the youngest sister, Rose.  I LOVED that show, but unfortunately it only lasted barely one season.  Too bad on this show she played a bit of a gold digger, but it was still great to see her again!  She’s still so cute and pretty.

Still love this show.  It’s so great because it has everything – comedy, drama and heart.  Brooke Elliott is just AWESOME as Jane, and they really luck out on how many FAMOUS GUEST STARS they have on that show!  It’s obviously doing pretty well if it can bring in so many notable people…

*SIDE NOTE:  NL – still waiting for you to give it a shot…even Kris is on board with this one already! ;)

DROP DEAD DIVA 6/13/10: 2.02 “Back From The Dead”

  • Chad Lowe!  Boy, does he resemble is brother or what?!  Watching him act, the way he moves and talks…kinda eerie how similar actually!  Except, unfortunately, he’s not QUITE as attractive (I’m sure you’d agree KRIS, considering how highly you think of Rob :P )
  • Such a sad story…I mean, the guy had AMNESIA!  It’s not HIS FAULT he was away from his family for 9 YEARS…He COULDN’T REMEMBER who he was!
  • On the other hand, I don’t blame his wife for moving on…I mean, it WAS 9 years…
  • The part I didn’t like was when Daniel returned, she wanted to keep THEIR son away from Daniel.  Yes, it would’ve caused turmoil, but…it’s still HIS SON too.  He deserves to try to have a relationship with him.

  • Ricki Lake!  Wow, 2 celebrity guest stars in one episode!
  • She TOTALLY had a right to sue that guy who was trying to steal her persona of the writer.  I seriously didn’t understand how the guy expected to “keep up” with the charade of Jonathan Noble.  Gimme a break.
  • Cute how Parker was trying to “woo” Ricki Lake with her own “tips” from her books…

  • Fred working for Kim…that’s a nice little twist.  He’s an AWESOME assistant tho.  Too bad he can’t be Jane’s. :P   Sorry Teri!
  • Cute how he wants to work for Kim because that way he’ll be close to Jane.  Aww!

  • I was wondering if we were ever going to see the “real” Deb anymore on the show…I like how they incorporated her into the story.

CASTING NEWS: Jake to be a “bachelor” again!

Jake Pavelka will be showing off his acting skills…on an upcoming episode of Drop Dead Diva!

Jake will be playing…you guessed it…a bachelor…on the show, Troy Davlin, who was on a dating show, then gets sued for dissing one girl for another.  Funny huh?

Should be interesting to see how Jake is at the acting thing…

He’ll be taping the episode this month, with it scheduled to air on Lifetime August 22.

*NL – Maybe THIS will make you watch DDD?! ;)

DROP DEAD DIVA 6/6/10: 2.01 “Would I Lie To You”

2nd season has begun!  After watching this premiere episode, I forgot how much I enjoy this show…

  • Wow, that was a HUGE musical number!  I mean…it was like a music video…they performed the WHOLE SONG!  That really is Brooke Elliott and Margaret Cho singing too!  Brooke came from Broadway, so it’s nice she can show off that side to her.
  • Paula Abdul cameo again…nice!  She really had a lot in that number!  She looked good!
  • Wow, Jane had 3 GUYS she was juggling in this episode!
  • Still can’t believe Jane was actually MARRIED!  Took them a while to explain the backstory there, but once we found out, it made sense.
  • Can’t believe Kim would testify (and not just testify…SHE approached them to testify) AGAINST Jane in her disbarment trial.  I know she doesn’t like Jane, but…that was just mean.
  • I thought that Jane’s husband was actually a good guy…but NO!  Jerk!  Ugh!  Glad she told him off and got rid of him from her life!  And to think she THOUGHT she had actual feelings for him!
  • I love Stacy…she’s so cute and SO supportive of Jane/Deb!
  • Fred is back!  As her guardian angel too!  I was wondering if they were going to bring him back…
  • Glad that Parker realized just how GREAT of a lawyer Jane is…and the reasons for what she did.  He actually has a heart…sort of.

Well, it was a good premiere episode.  Looking forward to seeing what this season holds…

NL – I know right now you’re a BIT preoccupied with a certain little someone :) , but…you REALLY should try check this show out!  I think once you get into it, you’re REALLY going to enjoy it!  It comes on before AND after (they repeat it) Army Wives, so it’s easy to tape! ;)

Drop Dead Diva 9/27/09: 1.11 “What If”

I guess the running theme in this episode was “Mom.”

  • Nia Vardalos!  Makes me want to watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding again.  Loved that movie!
  • Felt bad for Lisa.  To find out when you’re like 40 that you may have been switched at birth…I wouldn’t even know how to react to that.  Don’t blame her AT ALL for wanting to know the truth.
  • Jane’s mom!  “Deb” was lucky Jane didn’t have the best relationship with her mom…otherwise her mom may have recognized more of the “changes” in Jane and her personality.
  • LOVED when Jane/Brooke Elliott sang!  Brooke’s a Broadway girl, and her voice attests to that!  Awesome!  Hope she gets to use her vocal chops again soon!  She’s got a great voice!
  • Why was Parker acting so weird?!  Didn’t really understand it.  Glad Grayson was able to bring him out of this…rut he was in.
  • I like Tony.  He seems like a great guy…and REALLY likes JANE for JANE. :-)   Sweet!
  • Poor Lisa.  Her mother KNEW that Lisa wasn’t her real daughter, but didn’t tell her.  I did think it was so sweet that the mom didn’t even care that Lisa wasn’t hers…she raised her so Lisa IS HER daughter.
  • Aww…Fred’s leaving again!  But this time it was HIS OWN decision!  Wonder if they’ll somehow bring him back again?
  • Jane and her mother.  Lisa, Sally and “their” mom – such sweet moments!

This show is so great at adding in that little touch of “aww” in every epiosode.  One of the main reasons why I love the show so much!

Drop Dead Diva: 8/30/09

  • Gregory Harrison!  Wow, haven’t seen him in anything in a long time!  He looks basically the same…just more gray. ;-)
  • OK…he’s kinda CRAZY!  Talk about “living life to its fullest”!  He’s really NOT crazy…he just doesn’t hold back.  He just does what he feels, says what he thinks.  Nothing wrong with that.  You can TELL he’s really a super smart guy once you get past the “wild” side.
  • When Jane “barked like a bulldog”…HILARIOUS!  She’s so awesome…love Jane!
  • GRAYSON:  Interesting.  I thought for sure now that he and Kim kissed, they’d just start dating.  Guess not.  I like that he was questioning whether or not he really WANTED to be with Kim or if it was just ’cause she’s “there.”  Good boy!
  • KIM:  Now THAT was surprising.  He finally was coming around…then she backed away.  I guess she was frustrated that he couldn’t make up his mind about her.  I’m SURE this isn’t the end of the whole Grayson/Kim thing yet tho.
  • High school reunion!  So cute how Stacy got all the popular girls to care about Jane.  They’re so superficial.
  • Chris Carmack!  I didn’t watch The O.C., but he was also on one of my favorite short-lived show, Related.  He looked a lot cuter here…probably because he wasn’t playing a sleaze. :-)
  • So sad about Gregory’s character.  SO happy he reconciled with his son tho.  Probably wouldn’t have happened without Jane tho.
  • Hot air balloon ride!  Don’t know if I’d have the nerve to go up in one…you’re so exposed up there!  Pretty cool tho!  Once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Drop Dead Diva: 8/23/09

  • AWW!  No Fred anymore?!  How sad!  I hope somehow they’re able to bring him back!
  • Right when Stacy finally admitted she likes Fred…now she doesn’t remember anything!  Probably better she doesn’t since he’s not around anymore.
  • Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Hocus Pocus)!  Haven’t seen her in a long time…she looks good!
  • Teri Polo (Meet the Parents)!  She looks good!  Too bad she was playing a swindler…LOVING all the guest stars on this show!
  • NOOOOO!  Kim & Grayson kiss!  YUCK!  Right when Jane was about to reveal to Grayson her “secret”…!  Dangit!  I can’t believe Grayson thinks he sees qualities of Deb in Kim…SERIOUSLY?!
  • But we KNEW it would happen this way…There needed to be a “hurdle” that Jane & Grayson have to get over before they can finally be together…

Drop Dead Diva: 7/26/09

  • You know how much I LOVE guest appearances!  Rosie O’Donnell!  Haven’t seen her in anything in quite a while…I thought she was great!  She matched the role really well!
  • The whole “What’s the Verdict” gameshow dream sequences were quite hilarious!  Another guest appearance…Chuck Woolery!
  • Funny how Jane has to try to “remember” what cases she’s previously worked on…Especially in this case, where it was a RE-trial…Kinda tough to remember it when it was SOMEONE ELSE’S cases.
  • Kim…Ugh.  The way she sneakily got Grayson to have dinner with her and “Parker,” then for Parker to conveniently not be able to make it.  Kind of pathetic on her part, if you ask me…Don’t know why she just didn’t ASK him to go out.  Shows how INSECURE she really is.
  • I was happy that Stacy had a bigger role in this episode!  When she dressed up as the business woman…and she “acted”…she did a great job!  Her voice even changed!  It sounded so much lower and more professional!  I’m guessing that’s how her voice is in real life…
  • When Jane was questioning the plaintiff’s wife…and she started crying/sobbing about what the wife was saying…Hilarious!  The REAL Jane wouldn’t have shed a tear…but not because she had no emotion or didn’t care.  I think having Deb’s personality inside Jane really gives Jane a more well-rounded personality.  She shows more layers of her emotions.
  • Fred has a crush on Stacy!  HOW CUTE!  Jane is kinda right tho…Stacy’s KIND OF out of Fred’s league.  It was so funny when he was watching her dance to the music and he start hip shaking, etc.  Fred’s cute!  That would be cute if they started going out!
  • Ugh…I thought after Grayson confronted Kim about deceiving him about the dinner, that would be it.  But NO…Kim has to ask him out at the end…and OF COURSE he says yes.  Come on, Grayson!  You can do SO much better than her!  It’s just to get us fans all riled up…and root even more for Jane!

I’ll say it again…If you HAVEN’T checked out this show….PLEASE DO!  For all you Army Wives fans…it’s RIGHT BEFORE and AFTER it, so it’s easy to remember!  CHECK IT OUT!  You won’t be disappointed!

Drop Dead Diva: 7/19/09

I thought the premiere of this show was quite entertaining and funny…but it had heart, which I loved.  This episode?  EVEN BETTER than the first!

  • Can’t get over how good Brooke Elliott is in this role!  How she changes her voice/intonation to sounde like “Deb” vs “Jane”…Very cool!  LOVE HER!  The show is worth watching JUST FOR HER.
  • This “F Word” storyling was SO fitting for this show…Just LOVE how there’s HEART like that in the show…It’s one of the best parts.
  • Giving your kidney to your wife…then asking for it back?!  Wow.  That’s like something out of a Boston Legal episode.  UNTIL they brought in the HEART aspect again.  He didn’t want to go after his wife in the divorce…He didn’t want the money…He STILL loves her!  Aww…

  • Kim…UGH.  SO ANNOYING.  I mean, obviously we’re not SUPPOSED to like her.  When she flirts with Grayson…Ugh, GAG ME!  You KNOW he’ll probably end up going for her…at least for a while…but she’ll “get hers” at some point, I’m sure. ;-)

  • Jane/Deb’s best friend Stacey is QUITE entertaing to watch.  She’s kind of a like a mix between “Cher” from Clueless and “Karen“ from Mean Girls…but with more heart. :-)   Sorry, I keep using the word heart…but it’s so fitting for this show.
  • Stacey to Jane/Deb:  “You can do PIE LATTEs with me at the gym”…Pie Lattes…Pilates…AWESOME. :-)   Love the little sayings/lines in this show.
  • To actually say that a fat person is DISABLED because she’s fat JUST to win a case…Geez…But I’m sure that happens all the time…What you would do to WIN…

  • Love the scenes with Jane/Deb & Grayson…so much longing in Jane’s face…You KNOW he’s gonna fall for her at some point…It’s GOTTA happen. :-)   The whole popcorn in her hair…Cute!
  • It’s sad when Deb always comments how she can’t stand being in Jane’s body…It’s so sad…Can’t imagine how that would feel…especially not being able to tell the man you love that it’s you…

  • It’s nice that Jane/Deb has Fred to talk to…Other than Stacey, he’s the only one who knows her “secret,” but he understands her situation even better.  It’s a cute relationship.
  • I’m looking forward to seeing where they take this show…and the guest appearances!  I love guest celebrities!

If you haven’t checked this show out…CHECK IT OUT!  Seriously.  IT’S REALLY GOOD!

New Show: Drop Dead Diva

I had seen multiple commercials for this new show, Drop Dead Diva, so I thought I’d check out the premiere.  I have to say…LOVING IT! :-)   It also happens to air right before Army Wives, so…even better!

The show’s premise sounds more like a movie storyline…A very shallow, superficial model (Deb) gets killed but comes back to life (and I should actually say gets BROUGHT back to life) but in another woman’s (Jane) body.  And the woman who she is now is very…DIFFERENT…from the person she used to be.  And that’s an understatement.  Not only does Jane look NOTHING like what Deb looked like…but their personalities, priorities, and values are all totally opposite.  Jane is a successful lawyer who has no life, eats a lot and could care LESS about superficial things like clothes, hair, makeup, etc…So Deb is totally in culture shock, to say the least.  But now she has this new body and new life that she needs to get adjusted to.  Deb/Jane also has to actually practice cases…which makes for some interesting situations for Deb…considering she went from being a model to now being a lawyer!

Brooke Elliott as Jane (left) and Margaret Cho as Teri (right)

Right now the standout is definitely newcomer Brooke Elliott as Jane.  Brooke comes from a theatre background, and has toured with shows such as Wicked (my favorite!) and Beauty and the Beast.  She’s AWESOME in this show.  The way she plays the two opposite characters in one is pretty cool to watch…!  She’s a real find!

Margaret Cho plays Jane’s assistant, Teri.  We haven’t seen Margaret on TV in quite a while!  So far, Teri just seems like a typical assistant…nothing too outrageous or anything.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what this show brings…so far, I’m really liking it!  In their preview for the season, they’re showing a BUNCH of celebrity guest appearances…Rosie O’Donnell, Paula Abdul, Tim Gunn to name a few…You know me, I LOVE celebrity cameos/appearances!

Check this show out…It’s really entertaining and actually has some depth too!
