I had seen multiple commercials for this new show, Drop Dead Diva, so I thought I’d check out the premiere. I have to say…LOVING IT!
It also happens to air right before Army Wives, so…even better!
The show’s premise sounds more like a movie storyline…A very shallow, superficial model (Deb) gets killed but comes back to life (and I should actually say gets BROUGHT back to life) but in another woman’s (Jane) body. And the woman who she is now is very…DIFFERENT…from the person she used to be. And that’s an understatement. Not only does Jane look NOTHING like what Deb looked like…but their personalities, priorities, and values are all totally opposite. Jane is a successful lawyer who has no life, eats a lot and could care LESS about superficial things like clothes, hair, makeup, etc…So Deb is totally in culture shock, to say the least. But now she has this new body and new life that she needs to get adjusted to. Deb/Jane also has to actually practice cases…which makes for some interesting situations for Deb…considering she went from being a model to now being a lawyer!

Brooke Elliott as Jane (left) and Margaret Cho as Teri (right)
Right now the standout is definitely newcomer Brooke Elliott as Jane. Brooke comes from a theatre background, and has toured with shows such as Wicked (my favorite!) and Beauty and the Beast. She’s AWESOME in this show. The way she plays the two opposite characters in one is pretty cool to watch…! She’s a real find!
Margaret Cho plays Jane’s assistant, Teri. We haven’t seen Margaret on TV in quite a while! So far, Teri just seems like a typical assistant…nothing too outrageous or anything.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what this show brings…so far, I’m really liking it! In their preview for the season, they’re showing a BUNCH of celebrity guest appearances…Rosie O’Donnell, Paula Abdul, Tim Gunn to name a few…You know me, I LOVE celebrity cameos/appearances!
Check this show out…It’s really entertaining and actually has some depth too!
