ONCE UPON A TIME 4/1/12: 1.18 “The Stable Boy”

• Barbara Hershey as Regina’s mother?!  Talk about PERFECT casting!  So good.  And why was she so good?  She actually LOOKS like Lana Parilla a little bit…they look like they could be mother/daughter.  And she was GOSH DARN SCARY.  So intimidating.
• Felt bad for Regina.  At least we know that she STARTED OUT as a GOOD GIRL.  She WASN’T at all into power and money.  Too bad her mom was so controlling about what kind of life she was going to live.
• OK…what is the AGE DIFFERENCE between Regina & Snow?!  My gosh…Snow seems SO YOUNG!  My guess is that Snow was supposed to be around 12, and Regina was more like 18?  The fact that the King actually PROPOSED to Regina means she can’t be TOO YOUNG…you would HOPE.   I thought his proposal was a bit ridiculous.  JUST because Regina saved Snow from that runaway horse?!
• At least now we know the REAL STORY behind Regina’s hatred for Snow/Mary Margaret.  While I felt bad for Regina because of her mother’s control over her relationship with the stable boy, I also felt bad for Mary Margaret/Snow.  YES, Snow BLABBED to Regina’s mother about her love for the stable boy, MOTHER was the one who KILLED the guy!  Not Snow!  Plus Snow was a KID!  Gotta cut her a LITTLE slack.  But of course, it’s hard for her to just look past that because her heart was broken.  Lost the love of her life.
• Now it’s unfortunate for Mary Margaret…She has to pay for something she doesn’t even remember doing!

• The question still remains — Can we TRUST August?  Right now I think he’s good…But yet he’s so closed off as to who he is/where he’s from…Hard to fully trust him.
• Once Emma figured out that Sydney was bugging her office, August was basically off the hook.  But whose to say they BOTH couldn’t be after her?  You NEVER know.
• Umm…that ENDING?!  Awesome.  Kathryn is ALIVE?!  WTH?!  I thought they said that the heart they found in the box matched Kathryn’s DNA?  And now she’s ALIVE?  How?  Can’t be Regina…that would ruin her plan.  Must be Mr. Gold!

One word –  FINALLY.  We are FINALLY going to get to see the backstory of The Queen and Snow White.  And Barbara Hershey as Regina’s mother?!  Is that not PERFECT casting or WHAT?!

ONCE UPON A TIME 3/25/12: 1.17 “Hat Trick”

Based on the preview from last week, I was expecting this episode to be really creepy…But it really wasn’t.  A BIT twisted and MAD (pun intended ), but another great episode, imo…

• And this week’s fairytale we visit is Alice in Wonderland.  Not quite the typical story we all know…but that’s one of the best things about this show — how they kinda twist the story a bit.
• Umm…WHY is it that Jefferson, aka “The Mad Hatter,” CAN REMEMBER things in Storybrooke?!  And how come HE gets to have the SAME NAME in both worlds?!  I mean, I KNOW it’s his curse that he has to live with in Storybrooke, but I guess since he’s kinda mad, him remembering the fairytale world doesn’t do much since he comes off as crazy.
• And I didn’t realize that The Queen actually has a REAL NAME in fairytale land…and that it’s ALSO REGINA.  How funny.
• So the Mad Hatter actually has a daughter.  Interesting.  I love the addition of the White Rabbit as a stuffed animal.
• Wait…So the Queen had to steal her father back from the Queen of Hearts?  I guess this is all happening BEFORE she ends up sacrificing her father for the access to the curse?
• Now WHO is the Queen of Hearts?!  We never got to see her!  Interesting how she and THE Queen kinda have a power struggle going on. There’s only ONE Queen…
• Wow, they really took the OFF WITH HIS HEAD thing to new heights huh?  Kinda LOVED that.  And the fact that Jefferson in Storybrooke HAS the stitches all around his neck?!  Creepy, yet AWESOME.
• So when Mary Margaret kicked Jefferson out the window, and he disappeared, where did he go?
• So…Mr. Gold AND Regina ARE working together still?  So THEY put the key in MM’s cell to “help” her escape, only to have their plan backfire because of Emma.  Interesting.
• At the end when Emma saw Paige, aka Grace, at Henry’s school, and she went into the storybook, are they trying to say that Emma is FINALLY starting to believe?!

While this story was a bit on the crazy side, I really liked it.  And I’m guessing this won’t be the last we see of The Mad Hatter/Jefferson…

ONCE UPON A TIME 3/18/12: 1.16 “Heart of Darkness”

• First of all, how AWESOME was it to see Red turn into the Big Bad Wolf to fight off King George’s men?!  AWESOME. Still LOVED that twist in the fairytale.  I think that was the BEST twist so far.
• WTH is up with Snow?!  When she tried to kill that bluebird?!  My gosh!  That was SO WEIRD.  TOTALLY NOT in Snow’s character.
• Nice that they incorporated Jiminy Cricket into the Snow White story.  Love how they intertwine all the characters!
• Oh boy…Things aren’t looking good for Mary Margaret.  Her fingerprints were on the box with the human heart.  Then the box itself BELONGS to Mary Margaret.  Then Emma found that dagger in the vent in MM’s room!  Geez!  Gotta give it to Regina (assuming she IS the one who is framing her)…she really covered all her bases!
• WHAT?!  David is having dreams/remembering stuff from the FAIRYTALE WORLD?!  WTH?!  How is that possible?!  But no!  He thinks his dream means that MM killed Kathryn?!
• Didn’t quite understand exactly what the end meant.  With Rumpelstiltskin making the “love potion” using Snow & Charming’s strands of hair.  R did mention that if you can make a love potion, you can RULE THE WORLD.  So does that mean he’s ALL POWERFUL now?!

ONCE UPON A TIME 3/11/12: 1.15 “Red-Handed”

I’m so glad they did an episode focused around Red Riding Hood/Ruby.  She’s been in so many episodes already, altho barely.  Glad we got to find out more about her…

• Now I couldn’t remember, but in Storybrooke is Granny ACTUALLY Ruby’s grandmother?  Or does EVERYONE call her Granny?  I couldn’t remember if they told us that before or not.
• I’ve always liked Red Riding Hood’s look more than Ruby’s.  Less makeup makes her look better, imo.
• Red’s boyfriend’s name was Peter.  Hmm…are we talking about Peter AND THE WOLF Peter?  I would THINK that’s who they meant by naming him Peter…right?
• Umm…they just totally mixed in the ingredient of The Vampire Diaries into this recipe they call Once Upon A Time.  Werewolves?!  Awesome.
• I GUESSED IT!  Talk about a TWIST…and probably the best one in the last few eps…RED IS THE BIG BAD WOLF?!  I actually called it as I was watching the episode.  I thought that would be pretty FAR OUT THERE, but it would be AWESOME.  And it was!  LOVE LOVE LOVED THAT!
• Wow, so not only was Red a wolf…but so was Granny?!  Wow.  I THINK that’s what Granny said right?  She was “turned” by her husband?  Totally CAN YOU SAY TVD?
• Felt so bad for Red when she found out that she herself was the wolf…and that she killed her own boyfriend, Peter!

• WTH was going on with David in the woods?!  Was he in a trance or something?!  So weird.  Totally don’t blame him for thinking that he himself MAY have kidnapped/hurt Kathryn.
• Umm, how AWESOME was it when Ruby was able to “track down” David in the woods?!  That “wolf sense” definitely kicked in there!

• Ruby found a HUMAN HEART?!  Was it in the same kind of box that Regina put the Sheriff’s heart in?  It did kinda look familiar.  Is that REALLY Kathryn’s heart?  My guess is NO.  And HOW in the world did MARY MARGARET’S fingerprints get on there?!  Did Regina PLANT those prints?  But how?

GOOD STUFF!  Great episode.  And next week’s one looks even better…!

ONCE UPON A TIME 3/4/12: 1.14 “Dreamy”

While this episode wasn’t the most exciting, I thought it was still good and had its moments.

• Loved how they made the whole story of the dwarfs and how they “hatch” from an egg!  That was pretty funny.  Very creative.
• Also loved how all the dwarfs got named when they were handed their tools.  DREAMY?!  That was interesting.  Stealthy and Dreamy…How funny!
• I loved Nova/Astrid.  Even though she was a bit ditzy, I thought she was so cute!  Especially as Nova.  But I have to say that her fairy dress was NOT attractive.  Can you say jellyfish (thanks Cody! )?!  So weird.
• Grumpy/Dreamy/Leroy really is not the most likable character.  At all.  Funny how one person can make his whole persona change.
• And isn’t it funny how every time in fairytales, it’s always about how two people, for whatever reason, CAN’T be together?!  Poor Nova/Dreamy.  But it happened the way it needed to…Nova needs to become a fairy godmother!
• Catherine is still missing.  And did David really talk to Cat before she disappeared?!  Or did Regina FIX the phone records to make it LOOK like he did?!  Hmm…
• While the whole Grumpy/Nova storyline was kinda interesting, I wasn’t sure if it really had much to do with the bigger picture/storyline?  Or was I missing something?

ONCE UPON A TIME PROMO: 1.13 “What Happened To Frederick”

ONCE UPON A TIME 2/12/12: 1.12 “Skin Deep”

• I have to say that David is DUMB.   I mean…giving Mary Margaret the WRONG Valentine’s card?!  How pathetic was THAT?!  They were even in DIFFERENT colored envelopes too!  Right now he doesn’t deserve Mary Margaret.  He still hasn’t broken up with his wife.  She should move on for now.
• Cute to see Mary Margaret, Ruby & “Cinderella” (can’t remember her Storybrooke name) hang out together.  Girls Nite Out!   And “Cinderella” being proposed to by her boyfriend was very sweet.

• I have to say I really wasn’t feeling the Beauty & the Beast storyline.  For one thing, I wasn’t a fan of Emilie de Ravin as Belle.  I don’t think she was very likable, and she didn’t match what Belle should look like. Eh.  Then I wasn’t really feeling the love/connection between Belle & Rumpelstiltskin.  Altho I will say that this little twist on the Beauty & the Beast fairytale was pretty clever.  The Beast = Rumpelstiltskin was very clever.

• While I didn’t love the Beauty & the Beast storyline, this whole episode was worth it JUST for the BIG REVEAL that Mr. Gold KNOWS EVERYTHING!!!  That scene with him & Regina at the Sheriff’s office was awesome.  How is it that they BOTH know everything that’s going on?!  It’s really a battle between those two…and I can’t wait to see them really duke it out!
• And my gosh…Regina just has a WHOLE ‘NOTHER WORLD below the surface in Storybrooke!  First her little “heart chamber” and now this little psycho ward with Belle held captive!  Geez!  I’m guessing she’s keeping Belle (and had lied to Rumpelstiltskin in Fairytale Land) to give her an edge in case she needs to use her against Mr. Gold.  Awesome stuff.

ONCE UPON A TIME 1/29/12: 1.11 “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree”

Yay…We find out Sydney’s story!

• OMG!  Sydney is the Genie from Aladdin!  Wow!  Did NOT see THAT one coming!  That was awesome!
• Gotta say I felt bad for the Queen when the King kept saying how Snow White is the fairest of them all now that his former wife isn’t around anymore.
• Didn’t really get exactly WHAT the genie did once he went to live in the kingdom with the King.
• The Queen seemed much more sullen and almost SWEET when the Genie first was introduced to her.
• Can’t believe the Genie would BETRAY the King and KILL him for the Queen!  Altho we should’ve known…the King DID say at the beginning of the episode that people do crazy things when they’re in love.  PERFECT EXAMPLE.
• Boy…the Queen was EVIL even THEN!  This just makes me want to see how she was BEFORE!  Like when she married the King!  Was she ALWAYS this evil?  I think the King not being able to love the Queen as much as he loved his first wife…or even Snow…really made her jaded.
• OMG!  The Genie being “banished” to the magic mirror!  That was awesome!  They combined two of fairytales — Aladdin & Snow White — together!  LOVED THAT.

• Hasn’t Emma learned?!  The Mayor has ALWAYS been one step ahead of her/everyone!  A bit embarrassing for Emma & Sydney to try to expose the Mayor during the council meeting.
• Didn’t you just KNOW the new stranger guy has Henry’s storybook?!  Now the question is…WHY?  And how did he even KNOW about it/where it was?!
• That ending was…YES!  Awesome twist!  Having Sydney STILL be loyal to Regina.  The fact that the WHOLE time he was pulling the wool over Emma’s eyes, making her think he was her ally…AMAZING!  So Sydney/Genie…one in the same for sure.  Regina/The Queen has SOME hold on this guy.  LOVE LOVE LOVED it!

We have to wait 2 weeks for the next episode…

Can’t wait!

 

ONCE UPON A TIME PROMO: 1.12 “Skin Deep”

It’s Belle (Emilie de Ravin)!  Altho she doesn’t quite look like what I would’ve hoped she looked like.   And the Beast is…Rumpelstiltskin?!  Huh?!

ONCE UPON A TIME 1/22/12: 1.10 “7:15 AM”

• I will say that whole 7:15 thing…how they BOTH make sure to be at the diner at that time to see each other was pretty cute!
• The 7:45 “coincidental meeting” was AWESOME!  If THAT’S not a sign I don’t know what IS!
• Umm…that kiss at the end?!  Geez!  Didn’t David JUST tell Catherine that he WANTS to make it work with her?!
• Now WHY doesn’t David just LEAVE Catherine to be with Mary Margaret?!  It’s SO OBVIOUS that’s what he WANTS to do…!

• Stealthy Dwarf?!  LOL!  That was pretty hilarious.  But it explains why there isn’t an 8th dwarf in the story that we know…
• I can’t believe Snow White DRANK that potion from Rumpelstiltskin!  RIGHT when the Prince actually LEFT his fiancee!  Why didn’t she listen to Grumpy?!

• Lemme just say how much PRETTIER Ruby is as Red Riding Hood.  My gosh, what a difference!  It’s the outfits and makeup as Ruby that makes her less attractive, that’s for sure.

• We STILL don’t know who the mysterious stranger in Storybrooke is…!  But we now know he’s a writer.  Here’s a thought — Maybe he’s the author of the storybook that Henry has?! (Thanks Rina! )
