Tonight was the season premiere of The Sing Off, the acapella competition show. Out of all 16 groups that performed (2 were already eliminated), there really was only one that stood out — the girl group DELILAH:
They REALLY impressed me. Loved their version of Bruno Mars’ Grenade! The lead singer was quite awesome…she had range, versatility and stage presence. She was able to do the soft falsetto, then she started belting, then she showed off her GROWL! Wow! Great job! This group is definitely my favorite so far!
Last episode before the finale. So fast! Tonight the groups had to do a medley of songs by a certain artist…then they had to sing a “judges’ pick.”
As usual, my team The Backbeats were pretty great. First, they performed a medley of Lady GaGa hits…which, for an acapella group, is REALLY TOUGH because GaGa’s music is predominantly electronic, but they have to “create” those sounds on their own with no instruments other than their voices. They did a good job:
For the 2nd round, their judges’ pick was “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. The Backbeats tend to do well with ballads because they sing with a lot of feeling (and the lead singer Joanna is pretty awesome). Their rendition (I normally really like the Dixie Chicks’ version) was SO PRETTY:
I really hope The Backbeats win! And I DID VOTE for them tonight!
But IF it can’t be The Backbeats, I’m rooting for Street Corner Symphony. Here for their judges’ pick they sang “Down On The Corner” by Creedance Clearwater Revival. Considering they only have 6 members (where other groups have like 10 or more), they really are pretty awesome…not to mention the lead singer Jeremy has a GREAT VOICE:
The finale of The Sing-Off airs this coming Monday already! I do hope one of my groups win! The Backbeats FTW!
My favorite performance from tonight’s episode was by The Backbeats. They performed B-52′s “Love Shack.”
It was such a FUN performance. Loved their outfits too. Nice that they featured Kenton (I think that’s his name)…the guy who “created” this group. So fun! I love them!
Every episode of The Sing-Off starts off with a group number. This week the contestants performed Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody.” I have to say the performance was AWESOME. It featured a LOT of the singers (many of whom we haven’t really heard singing solos). Very moving. One word – EPIC!
The last group I kind of “fancied” were The Backbeats. They’re actually made up of some previous contestants from last season, along with some new members.
They tackled Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy”…and when it first started, I was a bit worried. The lead singer girl was so exposed and was a bit shaky (didn’t help that she had to sing SO LOW). But once it got into it, I gotta say…they really nailed it! The lead singer girl really BELTED it out…I was really impressed! It was a great performance and I’m looking forward to more performances by them!
This group, On The Rocks, was actually a “YouTube sensation”…and amazingly, I actually have SEEN their YouTube video!
Just like in their YouTube video, they performed Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance”…This performance was better than the online one, and what I like about them are their choreographed “moves.” Very engaging. The only thing is that there are SO MANY guys singing in the background that the lead singer gets drowned out a bit. But these guys definitely have big potential…
The acapella reality competition show (which I really enjoyed) premiered Season 2 tonight on NBC. They started with 10 groups, and throughout the show they booted two groups. I have a few favorites from tonight. Unfortunately due to how I have to post the videos, I’ll have to make separate posts for each video.
My first favorite was a group of high school kids…Eleventh Hour. I KNOW everyone is SO TIRED of Justin Bieber already, but they performed Justin’s song “Baby”…and I have to say I was pretty impressed. They were much better than I thought they’d be. The lead singer girl has quite a good voice…a lot stronger than I expected.
Oh, and when Nicole Scherzinger said “We have our own Glee right here…” UMM…NO. Glee they are NOT. BUT they were pretty good.
