ADAM LAMBERT: Better Than I Know Myself (Tonight Show 1/17/12)

Adam Lambert debuted his new single, Better Than I Know Myself on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight.

Adam sounded great…and his look was so “reserved” for him!  No eye makeup!  He looked so “clean”!  Loved it!  Great to hear new music from him!  Kind of excited to hear what the rest of his album sounds like!

AMERICAN IDOL: Forbes AI Top Earners

Forbes has published its list of the 2010 Top Earners for the past year.  Would you like to guess who was #1? :)

1. CARRIE UNDERWOOD ($20 million)

Buoyed by 83 concert dates in 12 months, the Season Four winner made as much as the rest of the TOP 5 IDOL EARNERS COMBINED.
GO CARRIE!

Here's the rest of the list:

2. DAUGHTRY ($6 million, tie)

Though he only finished fourth in Season Five, Chris Daughtry ’s eponymous band earned big with 53 dates in support of album Leave This Town.

3. ADAM LAMBERT ($6 million, tie)

Lambert was edged by Kris Allen in Season Eight, but he easily out-earned his rival thanks largely to 116 shows around the world in 12 months.
Go Adam!

4. FANTASIA ($4 million)

Season Three’s champ cashed in on new album Back to Me and 38 shows; will star in film Mahalia! later this year.
I think as long as you "tour" and do live shows, your number increase significantly...

5. JORDIN SPARKS ($3 million)

The youngest winner in the show’s history, Sparks debuted at age 17 and broke out with “No Air,” a duet with Chris Brown that has sold 4 million digital copies to date – making it the best-selling single ever by any American Idol contestant.
Jordin has always done well because of her singles...Great job Jordin!

6. KELLY CLARKSON ($2.5 million)

The first-ever American Idol continues to be a household name, though Clarkson’s earnings dipped from last year’s tour-fueled $11.7 million. Look for a comeback: her fifth album is set for release this fall.

7. JENNIFER HUDSON ($2 million)

Hudson’s yearly take is a bit low due to a paucity of tour dates, but she remains one of Idol’s greatest successes, winning an Oscar in 2006 for her role in Dreamgirls. She recently signed on as spokeswoman for Weight Watchers.

8. KELLIE PICKLER ($1.8 million)

With nearly 80 shows in the past 12 months, mostly as a supporting act or co-headliner, Pickler is one of the hardest-working Idol alums.

9. CLAY AIKEN ($1.5 million)

The Raleigh, N.C., native has sold over 4 million albums, penned a New York Times bestselling memoir and starred in Broadway’s “Spamalot” in the wake of his second-place finish in Season Two; new album Tried and True hit stores last year.
Considering Clay hasn't had an album in a while, it's still pretty impressive.

10. KATHARINE MCPHEE ($1 million, tie)

In addition to releasing three albums, the Season Five runner-up has co-starred in series The House Bunny and is set to co-star in NBC’s Smash.
Now that Kat will be in "Smash," hopefully her numbers will rise next year.

10. DAVID ARCHULETA ($1 million, tie)

Defeated in Season Seven by David Cook, Archuleta went on to release a self-titled album on Jive records that reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts. His memoir, Chords of Strength, debuted last June.

10. DAVID COOK ($1 million, tie)

Cook has come a long way from tending bar in Tulsa, Okla. four years ago. After winning Season Seven, debut album David Cook went platinum. He also boasts an endorsement deal with Sketchers; his second album, This Loud Morning, was released in June.

Near Misses

Recent contestants Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Season Two champ Ruben Studdard narrowly missed the list this year.

Methodology

These numbers are based on estimated pretax income earned from May 2010 to May 2011, before subtracting agent and manager fees. The totals were compiled with the help of data from Pollstar, RIAA and others, as well as extensive interviews with industry insiders including managers, concert promoters, publicists, agents and, in some cases, the musicians themselves. AMERICAN IDOL 10: Top 13 Results

OMG… that group song!  The first group song is always really bad…and this was NO exception.  Not good at all.  And sad that they did Michael Jackson…really didn’t sound great.  What was even weirder was that it seemed like parts of it was live and other parts were not.  There were parts that were bad (which HAD to have been live :P ), then other parts that were pretty good (which totally sounded recorded ;) ).

Still can’t stand that they even lip synch ANY parts of the group number.  I mean, that’s the WHOLE CONCEPT of American Idol – singing live!  HELL-O!  Ugh.

Just some quicks notes about the results show:

  • Ford commercial – Didn’t like it.  Song was junk and the concept of the commercial was just…EH.
  • Red Riding Hood premiere – Couldn’t they have gone to a better movie?  Totally don’t have any desire to see that one…plus the “stars” in that movie aren’t really big stars.  EH.
  • Poor thing when Lauren actually apologized for her “sucky” performance last night.  It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t a catastrophe.  Says something about her character when she apologizes like that.  It was sweet.  You could tell how bad she felt about it.

Credit:  mjsbigblog.com

  • ADAM LAMBERT – AWESOME.  The acoustic version of Aftermath he did tonight was like the one he did when I saw him live in concert.  Love that version.  He’s so good with those “soft” arrangements.  Umm…and his performance totally showed a CERTAIN SOMEONE exactly how it’s done.  So THERE.  :P
  • B3:  KAREN/ASHTHON/HALEY – 2/3 isn’t bad.  Not surprising at all actually.  Karen was the most classy about being put in the B3.  Her reaction just verified what a nice/sweet person she is.  And although I didn’t put Haley in my B3, I can see why she was there.  Like I had blogged in my performance post, her RANDOM song choice probably did her in.  To go from Alicia Keys to LeAnn Rimes…talk about CONFUSING people as to what kind of artist you are…

BOOTED:  ASHTHON

Yay!  1 for 1 in my boot predictions!  Being a wildcard pick, Ashthon already wasn’t a fan favorite, so she really had to try to win America over in other ways.  Her personality unfortunately isn’t as likable as others, so she needed to NAIL her performance to really win some points.  But she wasn’t able to do that.

No surprise AT ALL that the judges didn’t use their save.  I don’t think the judges would EVER use their save in the FIRST week of competition.

So next week’s theme is “Songs In The Year You Were Born.”  So once again they’ll all get to still stay within their comfort zone…People like Scotty luck out.  Would’ve loved if they had to sing an actual THEME/GENRE of music instead.  Oh well.

ADAM LAMBERT CONCERT 10/25/10: Glam Nation Tour 2010

As most of you know, I went to the Adam Lambert concert this past Monday at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.  I LOVED him when he was a contestant on American Idol a couple of season ago, but never thought I would ever really get to see him perform live.  Lucky for me, he made a stop here in Hawaii!  And let me just say…his concert was…in a word…AWESOME.

Just a few pics from the show:

The stage before the concert began

One of the biggest surprises to me was the dynamic of the crowd.  There were a LOT of middle-aged ladies there.  A LOT.  If you click on the picture above to enlarge it, take a look at the ladies standing in the front up at the foot of the stage.  Are they young girls/ladies?  No sir.  That was really surprising to me.  It was actually kinda cute knowing that “older” ladies like that were so into Adam.  After all, he is a BIT extreme…to say the least…but yet they totally embrace him AND were going CRAZY for him during the show! :)

Adam sounded AMAZING!  He voice definitely sounded better than when he was on AI.  Altho maybe that’s just because he was singing live.  Hearing someone live usually always sounds better (assuming they’re a good singer to begin with, of course ;) ).

His wardrobe definitely didn’t disappoint.  So very “ADAM.” :)   Nothing TOO over-the-top tho.

One of the coolest parts of his show was the fact that they had the strobe lighting going on.  It was pretty awesome…and because we were in the balcony, you could really embrace the whole effect of the lights.

One of my favorite parts of the concert was when he did a whole acoustic set.  He changed up some of his songs and really stripped them down.  I LOVE LOVE LOVED hearing him sing this way because it REALLY showed off just how TALENTED the guy is…and just HOW MUCH he can do with his voice.  And he sings SO EFFORTLESSLY.

Our seats were awesome…and they may actually be the best seats I’ve every had at a concert.  We were in the balcony, so above it all.  If you were on the ground floor (like my sister was), they had to STAND the WHOLE TIME.  I’ve sat in the balcony before, but because we were so much closer to the front of the balcony this time, it almost felt like we were in a different theatre.  This felt so much more intimate.

One of my only “gripes” was that I wish his set was LONGER.  He probably performed for only about 75 minutes or so.  Considering he only has one CD out, he really doesn’t have much material to choose from to perform…so I can see why he can’t be out there for over 2 hours singing.  But because he sounded so GOOD, I really would’ve loved if he sang at least a couple more numbers.

I already was a big fan of Adam’s…but seeing him live just made me an even BIGGER fan.  He really is AMAZING as a performer and artist.  He really knows how to work the crowd…and he really did put on a SHOW!  Totally would go see him again if I get the opportunity.  Hopefully he liked it enough here where he’ll come back again!

ADAM LAMBERT: ALOHA!

It was just announced today on our local KHON News that none other than ADAM LAMBERT will be doing a concert here on Oahu as part of his Glam Nation Tour in October!

Umm…HOW EXCITING is that?!  Wonder what made him schedule a concert here?!  I mean, they must think he’ll sell quite well if they’re willing to come ALL THE WAY here to do a concert.  Am I going to go?  UMM…YES. I can’t pass up the opportunity to see Adam sing LIVE in our HOMETOWN!  HELLO!  I know his concert will be QUITE outrageous (and that’s an understatement), but it’ll be worth it just to hear his voice LIVE!

Tickets go on sale THIS FRIDAY already!

AI NEWS: Adam Hits #1!

Adam Lambert has hit the charts big time!

For the first time in his career, Adam has hit #1!  His single, Whataya Want From Me, hit #1 on the Billboard Singles Sales charts as well as #1 on the Dance Singles Sales chart!

Adam is one of 27 AI finalists to have hit #1.  This part may not sound the most impressive, but I guess when you think of just how MANY finalists AI has had over 8 seasons (soon to be 9)…that’s a pretty great accomplishment!

Congrats to Adam!

VIDEO: Adam Lambert – WWFM on AI 4/14/10

Along with being the mentor on American Idol this week, Adam Lambert also performed Whataya Want From Me on the results show last night.

In true Adam fashion, he really PUT ON A SHOW!  All the lasers, lights and smoke…not to mention a bit of a different arrangement of the song.  He really showed off his vocals!  It was quite a performance, I must say.  Pretty awesome!  Watching him on the Idol stage made me miss all of his performances from last season…he really gave me a reason to watch! :)

See current idol contestants…THIS is the kind of performance you should be doing every week!  SPICE IT UP!

AMERICAN IDOL: Next Week’s Mentor!

Wow, I’m still shocked at the fact that this is going to happen…

Entertainment Weekly has reported that it has been confirmed that the mentor on American Idol next will be none other than…

ADAM LAMBERT!!!

Wow, this is huge!  He’ll be the first-ever IDOL mentor…and he didn’t even win the competition!  I was wondering whether or not they’d even HAVE Adam on the show AT ALL, considering how much “controversy” he’s had over the past year…but wow, never expected mentor status!

I KNOW the fact that he’s a MENTOR will cause a lot of controversy on its own, just because Adam’s really hasn’t been on the scene very long, but…to me, what better person to give advice than someone who’s been thru the competition (all the way ’til the end) and has also had his share of bad press/attention AND success.  I think it’ll mean more to the idols coming from someone so new and fresh like them.

Adam just tweeted to confirm it:  @adamlambert it’s true! In addition to performing on Idol April 14th, I will be mentoring the  top 8 on the 13th. I feel honored to be asked.

Adam must be getting a boatload of “be careful” tweets regarding his idol appearance because he replied:  @adamlambert Don’t worry America: I will be beyond family friendly. Relax and enjoy. For Your Entertainment. Ha!  Funny!

I for one am QUITE excited for this!

And I just realized…Who could ask for a better lineup next week Tuesday?!!!  ADAM ON IDOL and GLEE!  OMG!  How awesome is that?!

GRAMMY AWARDS 2010 Red Carpet Arrivals: The Rest of Female Fashion & **POLL**

Just thought I’d post some pics of others on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards.  These awards are always known for ALL KINDS of fashion statements…and this year was NO exception. :-)

Katy Perry

  • Supposedly Katy was going for an Indian theme…there’s ACTUAL metal on her dress.

Beyonce

Fergie

Pink

Taylor Swift

Jennifer Hudson

  • Jennifer definitely has lost a lot of weight!  In her red carpet interview, she said she’s been working REALLY hard to look the way she looks now….

Lady GaGa

  • Umm…what can you say about Lady GaGa?  We won’t expect anything less…ridiculous “art.”  Wow.  And look at those shoes!

MUSIC VIDEO: Adam Lambert – Whataya Want From Me

Adam Lambert’s music video for his current single, Whataya Want From Me:

Personally, this is one of my favorite songs on the album.  It’s really catchy…and the lyrics totally match Adam and his experiences, etc.

I LOVE Adam’s look in the video when he’s “dressed down.”  The parts where he’s just in the house…not in in his “performace” look.  Not much makeup (mainly not as much eyeliner)…hair is not all slicked, dressed casually.  He looks SO GOOD!  Really cute actually.

RUMOR ALERT: Adam on Glee *UPDATED

*UPDATE: Sadly, the rumor is just that…A RUMOR.  Adam tweeted this afternoon to confirm that it was ONLY A RUMOR:

AdamLambert Glee guest star rumor: it’s a rumor. Sorry guys.

Junkie!  Oh well…maybe one day!

****************************************************************

OK, I know I mentioned this before…but it’s coming up again…and coming up again is a good thing!  Maybe it’ll be true this time!

Rumors are that Adam Lambert will be doing a guest appearance on Glee during this 2nd half of this season…

According to BroadwayWorld (who got it from the National Enquirer – which isn’t the most reliable source), Adam may have signed on to play a “big brother”/mentor to Kurt…which would be a role that would make sense/fit for Adam to play!  Altho, if his storyline is only connected with Kurt…don’t know if they would somehow be able to work in a duet with Rachel (Lea Michele is DYING to sing with Adam).  But who knows?  Maybe they can figure something out…

HOPEFULLY!

We’ll see if there’s any truth to this…hopefully reports will confirm this at some point…

VIDEO: Lea loves Adam

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but Lea Michele is DYING to sing with Adam Lambert…Here’s just a short video of Lea explaining just HOW MUCH and WHY she wants to sing with Adam SO BADLY. It’s a cute explanation…she gives a good metaphor about it. :-)

Get Adam on Glee already!

Adam on The View 12/10/09

Adam was interviewed and performed on The View yesterday.  What’s funny…and what will probably be happening with him for a while…is that the show PRE-TAPED his segments (considering this show is on ABC, I’m not surprised)…I’m assuming just in case. ;-)

  • Adam was pretty open in the interview…No real new revelations tho.  Same old…he doesn’t regret the AMAs…he admits he went a “bit too far” in his performance…he kinda is still surprised at how big of a deal everyone has made this into…
  • This is the BEST I’ve heard Adam sound on “Whataya Want From Me”…It was an awesome performance.  And very “PG.” :-)

Adam Lambert on Ellen Show 12/1/09

Adam did an interview and performed his new single, Whataya Want from Me (Fun Fact:  Co-written by Pink) on the Ellen show today…

INTERVIEW:

PERFORMANCE (there were a couple of pitchy parts, but overall he sounded really great…especially on the verses):

I have to say…I still really do like Adam.  His interview was very good.  He still comes across as a very good guy…he admits his AMA performance went “a little too far.”  His attitude in the interview redeemed himself a bit in my eyes.  I still think his AMA performance was too much, but at least he’s able to recognize that and understands/respects people’s reaction to it.  Oh, and this performance was NOT at all RISQUE by any means. ;-)   He’s still got SUCH an awesome voice.  No matter what he does performance-wise…can’t argue about his voice.

BTW, his new album, For Your Entertainment, is REALLY GOOD!  There’s a great mix of stuff…even with all the electro stuff, Adam’s able to show off his amazing vocals on the album.
