AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 7/13/10: Fighting Gravity

Right now, I would say Fighting Gravity FTW! This is only the 2nd time we’ve seen them perform (they got sent straight to Hollywood because they were so good), and they outdid their audition. Loved the whole “swimming” section…and the little snorkel the one guy was wearing…very cute!

I just love how UNIQUE their act is…it’s totally engaging and the music they use is awesome. You KNOW it must take QUITE a bit of time to PERFECT the timing in all that they do!  Very cool.

LOVE THEM!

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 7/13/10: Sally Cohn

I know what you guys are going to say…Seriously?! Sally?! But come on…she HAND WHISTLED MARIAH CAREY’S “HERO”! That is SUCH a difficult song to SING, let alone WHISTLE! Gotta give her credit for that one.  Love Piers’ little jab at Nick about how Sally’s version was the BEST and MOST IN-TUNE version he’s ever heard (*cough* Mariah *cough*). :)

I will say that if she didn’t have her little “chat” time with the judges every time, her “act” wouldn’t be NEARLY as enjoyable for me. I do feel that the hand whistling IS a talent, but it’s really her personality and comments that really do it for me. She’s hilarious…and so cute! I mean…she’s 75 YEARS OLD! Go Sally!

On a serious note, I KNOW she SHOULDN’T win…but FOR NOW, I’m fine with her still being there. I enjoy watching her and wait to hear what she’ll say next. ;)

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 7/13/10: Future Funk

These little boys will move on to the next round solely on their cute factor. They are QUITE adorable. And I do have to admit that they are at least TALENTED as well. :) I still don’t think they are “winning” material, but they are enjoyable to watch.

Cute when the older boy told Howie, “Deal or No Deal?” :)

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 7/13/10: Airpocalypse

I really ragged on the air guitar band for not being a LEGIT band…I mean, seriously…they AREN’T PLAYING INSTRUMENTS! Hell-o! i felt bad for the ACTUAL MUSICIANS on the show.

But for THIS round, I do have to say they were QUITE entertaining. So “theatrical” that it’s funny.  Having said that, I still think they would be a great OPENING ACT for a REAL band…they aren’t HEADLINE material imo.

Enjoy!

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Las Vegas – Night 2

Night 2…The “Standby” night.  Just some quick reactions:

BIKER GUY: I’m really happy for him!  He seems like a nice guy.  Can’t believe he QUIT his job to devote ALL his time to the biking.  Pretty scary stunts he was doing tho.  I mean…IF HE FELL…man.

AIR MUSICIANS: OK, YES…it’s SORTA a talent.  But I kinda felt bad for the ACTUAL musicians who were competing.  Totally don’t blame them for being a bit jaded about the air musicians being there.

HAITI: Not to sound mean…but I was VERY GLAD they didn’t make it.  I mean come on…they weren’t THAT GOOD.  It was the whole sympathy factor that really did it.  Plus in this round, there isn’t really a live audience…so that makes a difference to the whole “mood” in the theater.

HOMELESS VETERANS: I was surprised that they didn’t make it thru.  I guess the judges probably realized it was just the sympathy factor AGAIN that kinda takes over…

CYSTIC FIBROSIS SISTERS: I was surprised they made it.  I still think the younger girl is a much better singer than the older sister.  But I CAN see America rooting for them…

MUSICAL GROUP WITH FEMALE LEAD SINGER (WHO LOOKS LIKE CHYNNA PHILLIPS): That lady is a GOOD singer.  She’s definitely got the voice to be fronting a band like that.  I was glad for them.  Compared to a lot of the other singers especially…

Next week America gets to vote.  Still don’t understand how you can COMPARE ALL these DIFFERENT ACTS.  Crazy.  How can you compare between a singer…an acrobatic act…a magician…dancing.  Like with American Idol, it’s easy to pick ONE PERSON to vote for.  With this?  HARD DECISION to root for ONE ACT.

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Las Vegas – Night 1

Just a few quick comments about some of the results of the Las Vegas round, Night 1:

DEBRA ROMER: Altho I like the tone of Debra’s voice, I’m surprised she made it.  I do think she’s a sweet girl.  Didn’t think her “Foolish Games” was nearly as good as her “Angel” audition tho.  Happy for her.

SALLY COHN: Wow.  I’m amazed.  I still like her tho.  She’s a spitfire and she’s not cocky.  She just does what she does.  Hand whistling IS a talent, btw. :)

CHIPS COONEY: He made it!  Wow!  To be honest, his “act” really is COMEDY more than it is MAGIC…that’s what Piers has to see!  He’s QUITE hilarious.

PRINCE POPPYCOCK: I was probably rooting for him the MOST.  Felt so bad for him that his voice wasn’t up to par.  I thought considering THAT, he sang QUITE WELL.  It was a HARD SONG he sang!  Geez!  And btw…his makeup this time around was EVEN BETTER than his first audition.  If that’s even possible.  SO HAPPY for him!  He deserves it!

MARY (can’t remember her last name): She went on for 10 min of yodeling and wailing…and they actually put her thru!  She’s definitely INTRIGUING.  She’s NOT a great singer whatsoever, but I don’t think you watch her for that.  She’s just so ODD that you can’t stop watching.

LITTLE RAPPER BOY: K…for obvious reasons, I don’t like him.  He acts like he’s ALL THAT already.  And he’s only 11!  Come on.  Don’t give him an even BIGGER head than he already has.  So he can rap.  Big whoop.  Eh.

CATWOMAN: I’m glad she made it.  What she does really is a talent.  And she does it in such a UNIQUE way.  Very smart on her part, in fact.  She really makes you WATCH HER.

TWO JASON MRAZ GUYS: Those 2 musician guys – I actually liked the younger blonde one better.  The other guy who went on too long…he was pretty good the first audition round.  Not as good this time.

THE FIRE MAGICIAN GUY: Felt bad he kinda messed up in his performance.  You can tell how MUCH this means to him.  Glad the judges didn’t count that against him.  At least he’s SUPER GRATEFUL.

Those are the ones that stand out to me that I can remember.  We’ll see who can impress the judges tomorrow to get those last few spots in Hollywood…

VIDEO: Debra Romer on America’s Got Talent 6/29/10

OK, this one’s a bit of a tough call…

Debra Romer is a 21 year-old student and waitress who’s dream is to become a professional musician/performer.  She’s had a bit of a tough life growing up, and she seems like a very sweet, humble girl.

As soon as she starts to sing…WOW.  Her voice does NOT match her look.  She sounded JUST like Sarah McLachlan.  SUCH a pretty tone.  Seriously.  The only issue?  Her confidence.  Howie is totally right.  She seemed SO NERVOUS up there on stage…in fact, she took a few seconds to actually start singing because she had to take a couple deep breaths to get herself motivated.  If she can just HONE her confidence in herself, she really COULD be a great musician.  She’s definitely got the voice for it.

I was actually really surprised that Piers didn’t see that same nervousness that Howie & Sharon did.  I mean…it’s VERY OBVIOUS.  I can see how Piers took that as innocence, but…come on now.  There’s innocence…and there’s fear.  I felt actual fear from her while she was performing.  But I’m really glad they gave her another shot.  That voice deserves to be heard again…she just had to “step it up” big time in the next round.  I really hope she does!

VIDEO: John Beatty on America’s Got Talent 6/29/10

John Beatty’s talent isn’t like other “talents” we’ve seen this season so far…but it IS a talent.  Very impressive.

LOVE how Piers totally tried to call his bluff…even to the point of trying to physically prove the guy wrong, and…he himself was proven wrong!  Funny stuff!

John seems like a nice guy too…can he make his talent a full-on show?  Actually…with a little help he probably can.  I think people might actually pay to see him too.  We’ll see how far he gets…

VIDEO: Carlos Aponte on America’s Got Talent 6/29/10

Carlos Aponte is from Puerto Rico and tried out for America’s Got Talent during the Chicago auditions.  When he starts talking about himself and how he can sing…Umm…NOT TOO CONFIDENT that this guy’s gonna have ANY talent whatsoever, I gotta be honest.

Then he starts to sing…and…OMG…did NOT expect THAT VOICE to come out of this guy…NOT AT ALL.

Another “Susan Boyle moment,” where I totally judged the guy from initial impression, and I (and everyone else in the audience, including the judges) was proven wrong.

He’s likable because he seems so foreign and innocent…can barely speak good English.  Doesn’t even understand everything the judges said to him.  But can’t deny that voice…

VIDEO: Christina & Ali on America’s Got Talent 6/23/10

This was the “tug at the heartstrings” performace of the night.  These two singing sisters both have Cystic Fibrosis, as do pretty much the rest of their family.  They sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” which just added to the emotional level of the whole performance…

I have to say that their voices really weren’t THAT impressive overall, but of the two, the younger sister had a much better voice.  Pretty strong at times, which I didn’t expect.  The older sister seemed way more emotional tho, so that may have affected things.

Just based on their backtory alone they would get through…they both seem like really nice girls, and like Piers said, they both were really genuine, which made you root for them even more.

VIDEO: AscenDance on America’s Got Talent 6/23/10

Here’s another AGT audition that was pretty interesting…

This couple actually does a choreographed “dance” routine while on a climbing wall.  It was such a UNIQUE routine…not sure if I could watch it for like an hour, but…gotta give them credit for creativity…and it IS a talent.  That GUY was amazing – how strong he was…having to lift her and everything while hanging from the wall.  Altho the girl was just as strong really…

Enjoy!

VIDEO: Sally Cohn on America’s Got Talent 6/22/10

OK.  Every time they have a “senior” contestant, already I’m a little bit partial to them because it takes a lot of GUTS to go out there on stage in front of not just the judges…but the audience…and do what they do at their age.  Awesome.

Sally Cohn is a 75-year old retired teacher.  Her talent?  Hand whistling.  I mean, it’s not anything super WOW or PHYSICALLY impressive, but it’s STILL impressive nonetheless.  But what really makes this lady great is her PERSONALITY and CHARACTER.  She’s a sassy lady…and just her whole demeanor is just…AWESOME.

It really made me happy to see her get through…I teared up and everything! :)

I can’t believe Sharon BUZZED her right in the middle of whistling America the Beautiful! As Stephanie on Full House would say:  “HOW RUDE!”  But Sally’s response to Sharon’s “No” was hilarious – That’s not going to kill my day…it won’t devastate me. Then after she got thru…I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight…I’m buzzed! :)

LOVE HER!

VIDEO: William Scott Anderson on America’s Got Talent 6/22/10

Another “tug at your heartstrings” performance was by military man William Scott Anderson.  Just hearing his story of what he does in the military made me cry. *sniff sniff*…geez!  They know how to get to you!

BUT, it wasn’t just his story that worked.  He performed a magic act and…WOW!  I wouldn’t say it was the MOST original magic act, but it was still very impressive!  AND the guy has FINESSE!  He really pulled off the execution of the trick really well!

He seems like such a nice guy…family man…I’m interested to see what OTHER tricks he has up his sleeve…

VIDEO: Connor Doran on America’s Got Talent 6/22/10

Tonight’s episode of America’s Got Talent visited Orlando & Portland.  Unfortunately, these two cities didn’t have QUITE the talent that other cities had…UNTIL the last 3 contestants of the night (at least that they showed).

This particular guy, Connor Doran, was very moving…mainly because of his backstory.  Flying an indoor kite.  I was like…huh?  How do you fly a kite indoors with no wind?!  But this guy was really good…and he even “choreographed” his “performance”…he was so focused.  Playing Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” definitely added to the “mood” and emotion of his performance.

You may not think what he does is THAT impressive, but with the backstory and meaning to it, it really was a talent, and it was quite emotional:

I was really touched by Connor’s performance, and I’m glad the judges were too!

VIDEO: Chips Cooney on America’s Got Talent

This was the last audition they showed us tonight, and I gotta say…I was thoroughly entertained.

Chips Cooney calls himself an “illusionist.”  When you see what he does…you’ll understand why I put the “”. :)

I thought he was HILARIOUS…it was SO bad it was funny!  His facial expressions help make it work too!  I was thinking…is that really a TALENT?!  But then watching his whole bit…it KINDA is a talent to pull that off that well.  As Howie said, “…he’s going for terrible.”  Piers disagreed.  What do you think?

I personally really enjoyed it and kinda want to see what he’ll do next!
