LADY GAGA & SUGARLAND: You and I (Grammy Nominations Concert) 12/1/11

It’s so funny how now when they announce the annual Grammy Awards nominations, they actually have a CONCERT with performances just to announce them.

The closing performance was Lady Gaga with Sugarland singing Lady Gaga’s song You and I.  It was AWESOME.  I was lucky enough to see Sugarland perform live when they came here, and Jennifer Nettles is an AMAZING performer.  Lady Gaga is on my list of acts I am dying to see live…Hopefully one day!

Enjoy!

LADY GAGA: Top Selling Cover Girl

According to Women Wear Daily, Lady GaGa was the best-selling at the newsstands in 2010 for monthly and biweekly magazines.

Gaga’s July 8 cover for Rolling Stone was the top-selling issue of the year for the magazine, with 245,000 copies sold, a total that is rnearly three times better than its 2010 average.

For Cosmopolitan’s April issue, the Gaga cover sold 1.7 million copies, the top seller through the end of October. The Gaga September Vanity Fair issue sold 450,000 copies, the title’s second-best seller of the year (behind only Angelina Jolie) through November, and more than 80,000 better than its average. Gaga on the January issue of Elle was the magazine’s third-best seller of the year through October.

WORST SELLER?

Aww…poor Taylor Swift.  She had the year’s poorest results. Her April Elle cover was its worst seller of the year through October, with sales running 60,000 less than the average on the newsstand; her November cover for Glamour was the second-worst-selling for the monthly, and her July Marie Claire cover was the third-worst-selling issue for that monthly through October.

Suffice it to say…Lady GaGa SELLS.  Obviously not just in music.  I think it’s mainly because GaGa may be ODD and kinda WEIRD, but she IS INTRIGUING.  Can’t help but want to read about her/know more about her.

Taylor on the other hand…I don’t think people associate her with being a cover girl.  But hey…at least she sells where it counts – her albums.  1 million + albums in ONE WEEK – can’t argue with that.  Who cares about magazines?! :P

THE SING-OFF Night 1: On The Rocks – “Bad Romance”

This group, On The Rocks, was actually a “YouTube sensation”…and amazingly, I actually have SEEN their YouTube video!

Just like in their YouTube video, they performed Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance”…This performance was better than the online one, and what I like about them are their choreographed “moves.” Very engaging. The only thing is that there are SO MANY guys singing in the background that the lead singer gets drowned out a bit. But these guys definitely have big potential…

Kate Walsh’s Sushi Dress – The Tonight Show 9/17/10

Kate Walsh wore a very UNIQUE sushi dress for her appearance on The Tonight Show recently:

The dress was actually an homage to Lady GaGa’s memorable “meat dress” that she wore to this year’s MTV Music Awards:

The story behind it is that Kate tweeted about GaGa’s dress: @k8_walsh “Seriously, I did think of a delicious plate of prosciutto! Lol! But then the steak hat pulled me out of my cured beef dream!” – and that comment got GaGa’s “Little Monsters” (her fans) in an uproar! She supposedly got a bunch of HATE tweets, etc. So I guess this dress was Kate’s response to it all. Pretty funny stuff actually, imo.

VIDEO: Lady Gaga “Someone To Watch Over Me/Bad Romance” on Today Show

Lady Gaga performed on the Today Show recently. In true Gaga fashion, she did a very theatrical medley performance of the standard classic “Someone To Watch Over Me” and her hit “Bad Romance.”

Awesome.

Oh, and watch all the moves she does in “Bad Romance”…Glee anyone?

GLEE PROMO: 1.20 “Theatricality”

In case you missed it tonight, here’s the preview for next week’s episode of Glee…which BTW, looks…

EPIC!

I mean, it’s GAGA…it’s GOTTA BE GOOD! :)

VIDEO: Soldiers’ “Telephone” Remake

This youtube video has been getting a lot of hits lately…

Some soldiers in Afghanistan did their own remake of Lady GaGa & Beyonce’s “Telephone” music video.  It’s actually pretty entertaining…some of their dance moves are pretty hilarious. :)

Don’t know what possessed them to do a music video…probably to get hits on youtube like they are now ;) …but here it is:

Enjoy!

CHRIS COLFER on The Ellen Show 4/29/10

Chris Colfer was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday.  It was a pretty short interview, but he told a cute story about how he got to meet Lady GaGa…

Enjoy!

GLEE: Gaga Scoop!

Entertainment Weekly revealed a bit more about exactly what Glee plans to do with Lady GaGa’s songs on the show…

According to creator Ryan Murphy, they’ll be performing 2 of Gaga’s songs:

  • Bad Romance (it’s like her most current single)
  • Poker Face (probably her most famous song) – “…will be tackled by Lea Michele’s Rachel.  Lea does a very stripped-down version of ‘Poker Face.’“  Umm…stripped down version of Poker Face sung by Lea?!  OMG!  Awesome!

Also, can’t go without having the LOOK of Gaga on the show…

…the glee club actually donning Gaga-esque wardrobe for the performance. “I do know that we’re all different Lady Gagas, and at one point I am the Kermit the Frog Lady Gaga,” says Michele.

If you’re wondering what the “Kermit the Frog Lady Gaga is:

Crazy huh? :)

“I saw a picture of the Kermit the Frog Lady Gaga with a Post-It on it that said ‘Lea.’ I was like, oh, great. Everyone else has incredible Lady Gaga outfits and I have that one.”

Haha!  How awesome is that?!  Rachel wearing that outfit?!  LOVE IT!  Can’t wait for this!

GRAMMY AWARDS 2010: Performances

Just thought I’d write a bit about and post videos of some of the memorable performances from last night’s Grammy Awards show.  The show was a whopping 3.5 hrs long, but it really was really entertaining…some GREAT performances, I must say:

LADY GAGA (with Elton John):

Lady GaGa got to open the entire awards show…and I have to say…I LOVED her performance!  Say what you will about how CRAZY she is, but…that lady has got some TALENT!

BTW, the outfit she wore for the performance was actually kinda “subtle” and “toned down” for HER. ;-)

This performance was so AWESOME…Lady GaGa is so musical in the way she changes up her songs…she sounds great, and sings with so much soul!

And the duet with Elton John just made it even better!  Mixing his “Your Song” with her “Speechless”…what a way to start the show!  LOVE LOVE LOVED!

PINK:

Wow, Pink’s performance was almost like something out of a Cirque du Soleil show!  Seriously.

She started out all covered up…but as the performance went on, she bared down to this:

Pink sang “Glitter in the Air,” from her current album Funhouse.

Her vocals were quite awesome…then when she got lifted up and started doing all the “acrobatics”…that was some crazy stuff.  Not only that…then she got SOAKING WET and did spins up in the air…and STILL SINGING.

You really have to watch her performance to really understand and experience it.  Quite impressive and totally memorable.  Great job Pink!

BEYONCE:

Beyonce won many awards last night…all of them deserving.  She’s had a great year…and “Single Ladies” was just EVERYWHERE this last year.

As usual, Beyonce puts everything into her performances, and this was no exception.

I was very disappointed that she sang If I Were A Boy tho.  I mean, she wasn’t even nominated for this song!  She should’ve sang Single Ladies or Halo.  “Boy” definitely shows off her vocals more than the other songs, but…it just wasn’t “wow” enough for me.

THEN she went into Alanis Morissette’s “You Outta Know”…WHY THE FACE?!  Where did THAT come from?  At first I thought Alanis was gonna come out and they were going to duet…but NO.  NO ALANIS.  Just Beyonce.  Odd and random, imo. (Altho I think she does this exact number in her live show…but still random.)

TAYLOR SWIFT (with Stevie Nicks):

Taylor Swift was a BIG winner last night.  She won the big one:  Album of the Year.  Considering how much her album has sold…I’m not surprised…last night she won her first Grammy awards…and I was happy for her.

Her performance on the other hand?  Where do I begin…

Taylor did a medley of a couple of her songs…and she had a surprise guest in Stevie Nicks…where they also sang one of Stevie’s songs:

OK.  I have to say that when you’re NOMINATED AND ACTUALLY WIN Grammy awards…you need to PROVE YOURSELF as to WHY you deserve those awards!  Taylor DID NOT prove herself AT ALL!  Her performance was NOT GOOD!  Man…I just can’t get over how amateurish she was…after all this time, all the live performing, she has NOT gotten better at singing.  At all.

I don’t know if it’s because she gets so into the energy of performing live that she doesn’t FOCUS on SOUNDING good…but she needs to try to work on that!  Pronto!

Bad enough she can’t sing her OWN songs very well…when she sang Stevie’s song with her…OMG.  Make it stop!  It was worse.

Taylor is always a tough one for me because she’s such a cute girl…cute cute cute personality.  BUT cannot stand how she CAN’T SING LIVE.  It really annoys me.

EARTH SONG – MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE:

They were hyping up this tribute to Michael Jackson at the Grammys for a while now…especially the fact that it was in 3D!  It was actually a reallly nice tribute…and being able to see it in 3D was pretty awesome (thanks RT for picking up the 3D glasses for us! ;-) )

Whoever picked those 5 artists to participate in the tribute did a GREAT job!  They were perfect people to do it…all of their vocals were just AMAZING!

L to R: Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion, Smokey Robinson, Usher, Carrie Underwood

The only thing I wished was that they each (especially Carrie & Celine ;-) ) would’ve been able to sing a bit MORE.  Because there were 5 of them, each of their solo parts were pretty short and limited.  Overall tho, it was a very sweet and touching tribute to MJ.  Also a very meaningful message as well.

GRAMMY AWARDS 2010 Red Carpet Arrivals: The Rest of Female Fashion & **POLL**

Just thought I’d post some pics of others on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards.  These awards are always known for ALL KINDS of fashion statements…and this year was NO exception. :-)

Katy Perry

  • Supposedly Katy was going for an Indian theme…there’s ACTUAL metal on her dress.

Beyonce

Fergie

Pink

Taylor Swift

Jennifer Hudson

  • Jennifer definitely has lost a lot of weight!  In her red carpet interview, she said she’s been working REALLY hard to look the way she looks now….

Lady GaGa

  • Umm…what can you say about Lady GaGa?  We won’t expect anything less…ridiculous “art.”  Wow.  And look at those shoes!

Lady GaGa Cookies

Kind of random, but I thought this was cute…

Some chefs decided to make cookies in some of Lady GaGa’s most famous (or infamous if you will :-) ) outfits/costumes she’s worn…pretty cool!

Lady GaGa on SNL 10/3/09

OK…I know what most of you think of Lady GaGa…I will admit that when she performs, YES…she is definitely sort of a freak show.  BUT, have you ever actually listened to her REALLY SING?!  I watched her perform on Saturday Night Live this past weekend and I just HAD to post one of her performaces.  It was AWESOME!

Now…as usual, her outfit is just RIDICULOUS and totally OUTRAGEOUS.  It’s actually a pretty cool outfit, if you ask me.  Kinda like a planet. :-p  She kinda had to practice maneuvering in that thing, actually…not the easiest.  ESPECIALLY when she moves over to the piano.  I KNOW it’s gonna be a bit distracting to watch because of this outfit, and you’re not gonna wanna take her seriously, BUT…

YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO HER SINGING.

Watch the WHOLE performace…it gets better as it goes on.She’s really got a great voice (which I think people totally don’t even notice because of her crazy outfits/image), and sings with feeling and can adlib quite well.  Not only does she sing, but she’s got some awesome piano skills…She sings a medley of some of her hits.  She even addresses the crowd, which I thought was a nice touch.  In person she’s actually quite a shy, quiet girl.

I was SO impressed with her SINGING ability…I really gotta give it to her.  She MAY be a bit of a freak show…but she’s really QUITE a TALENTED lady.

Watch the performance HERE.

Ryan Reynolds hosts SNL 10/3/09

Ryan Reynolds will be hosting Saturday Night Live this Saturday, October 3, 2009.  Lady GaGa will be the musical guest.  Great lineup!  Definitely gonna check it out!  If you can’t tell, Ryan Reynolds is now one on my “I like” list. ;-)   He won me over in Wolverine and The Proposal.

Click HERE to view some promos that Ryan did for the show.

Adam recording with RedOne

According to reports, Adam Lambert has been recording/working with RedOne, who is one of Lady GaGa’s producers, and is responsible for her two big hits, “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.”  Supposedly they kinda see Adam as being a male version of Lady GaGa.  I could totally see that.  Altho I think Adam could do A LOT more than just good dance numbers.  They call what Lady GaGa does “glam rock,” and that’s what Adam wants to do too.  Seems like working with RedOne is a good starting point.

Should be really interesting to see what kinds of songs he comes out with on his debut album…I’m excited for it…!
