Zac Efron & Taylor Swift, who are the stars of the new Dr. Seuss animated movie, The Lorax, were guests on Ellen’s talk show today. Their interview was SO CUTE. Taylor in particular is adorable. Zac is very humble and sweet as well.
After their interview, Zac showed off his newly learned guitar skills. Taylor taught him a few chords, and they sang an original duet about being on the Ellen show. Once again, TOO CUTE. They actually sounded really great together…they should record it!
According to broadwayworld.com, the casting for the movie version of Les Miserables is about wrapped up.
Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls) is being offered the role of Cosette, while…and I can’t believe I have to say this…
TAYLOR SWIFT is being offered the role of Eponine!
Man, I was worried this would happen. As I stated in my earlier post about this, it’s just NOT RIGHT. I am a fan of Taylor’s, but…we’re talking BROADWAY songs here! And not just Broadway songs, one of THE BEST songs in all of Broadway (On My Own)! And when someone like LEA MICHELE is in the running? COME ON!
But I DO understand why they would choose Taylor over Lea. Just based on the amount of FANS Taylor would attract can outshadow the level of vocal ability/talent for the role (Not only does Taylor not have the best voice, but she doesn’t have much acting experience either!). Although this IS a movie, so the vocals in the movie can definitely be “PERFECTED.” But STILL!
A movie version of the popular Broadway musical Les Miserables is in the works, and the pivotal role of Eponine (she sings THE famous song On My Own from the show) still hasn’t been cast.
According to reports, a handful of famous actresses are in the running/have auditioned for the part — Scarlett Johansson, Evan Rachel Wood…and two very notable ones being Lea Michele (yay!) and…Taylor Swift?!

You have GOT to be kidding me! Taylor Swift?! Come on now! While I am a fan of Taylor’s, if we’re talking Les Miserables, there’s NO COMPETITION. Lea Michele WAS in certain productions as Eponine before. Not to mention the vocal ability. I mean, can you imagine Taylor singing On My Own?!
I know they may consider Taylor because of the amount of pull/audience she would be able to attract considering how popular she is, but…I’m sorry…let’s just hope they make the right decision on this one…
Here’s part of Taylor Swift’s interview when she was a guest on Ellen today to promote her new fragrance, Wonderstruck. Taylor’s as cute as usual…some funny stuff. Enjoy!
Taylor Swift and Shania Twain participated in an opening skit for the CMT Awards last night. It’s kind of their take on Thelma & Louise. Pretty cute…with a bunch of cameos, including Glee‘s own Chord Overstreet:
According to Women Wear Daily, Lady GaGa was the best-selling at the newsstands in 2010 for monthly and biweekly magazines.
Gaga’s July 8 cover for Rolling Stone was the top-selling issue of the year for the magazine, with 245,000 copies sold, a total that is rnearly three times better than its 2010 average.
For Cosmopolitan’s April issue, the Gaga cover sold 1.7 million copies, the top seller through the end of October. The Gaga September Vanity Fair issue sold 450,000 copies, the title’s second-best seller of the year (behind only Angelina Jolie) through November, and more than 80,000 better than its average. Gaga on the January issue of Elle was the magazine’s third-best seller of the year through October.
WORST SELLER?
Aww…poor Taylor Swift. She had the year’s poorest results. Her April Elle cover was its worst seller of the year through October, with sales running 60,000 less than the average on the newsstand; her November cover for Glamour was the second-worst-selling for the monthly, and her July Marie Claire cover was the third-worst-selling issue for that monthly through October.
Suffice it to say…Lady GaGa SELLS. Obviously not just in music. I think it’s mainly because GaGa may be ODD and kinda WEIRD, but she IS INTRIGUING. Can’t help but want to read about her/know more about her.
Taylor on the other hand…I don’t think people associate her with being a cover girl. But hey…at least she sells where it counts – her albums. 1 million + albums in ONE WEEK – can’t argue with that. Who cares about magazines?!
Taylor Swift is the newest spokesmodel for Cover Girl:
Taylor will be promoting their new line called NatureLuxe. It’s an upscale line of CG products. NatureLuxe is designed to give a lightweight but polished finish for that natural everyday glow.
It’s actually a pretty nice picture. Her face looks so clean and fresh.
Dane Cook and Taylor Swift were guests on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night. Dane sang a special song to/for Taylor. Pretty weird (I mean…he took his shirt off and had a “tattoo” of her face on his chest…Umm…:/), but kinda cute.
Well, she’s done it. Taylor Swift’s new CD, Speak Now, has sold MORE THAN 1 MILLION copies in only its FIRST WEEK of being released!
That’s RIDICULOUS. A lot of artists can’t even hit that mark during their ENTIRE CAREER, and Taylor has done it in ONE WEEK. Amazing. These kind of numbers haven’t happened since Lil’ Wayne’s “The Carter III” in 2008, and it’s also the BIGGEST DEBUT since 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” 5 years ago.
Gotta give it to that girl. She’s got SOME POWER. Congrats to her. She’s definitely doing SOMETHING RIGHT.
On a side note, I’ve been listening to her new CD…and…it IS GOOD.
Taylor Swift was one of most “must-see” performers of the night…Just because of the whole “Kanye” incident that happened at last year’s show. Before Taylor performed, they basically reshowed the whole incident all over again. But her song was sorta in response to that song…
As for Taylor’s performance…*SIGH*…it’s a typical Taylor performance. Every time I HOPE she has gotten better…but NO. In THIS case, I’m giving her a LITTLE benefit of the doubt because it’s a NEW song, so she hasn’t been singing it live very much.
I’ve been wanting to see this movie ever since they started showing the previews. I’m a sucker for celebrity face-time in movies (hence why I LOVE celebrity cameos on TV shows ), so with this movie…having SO MANY famous faces in it, I HAD to see it! And I wasn’t disappointed!
Let me first start off by saying that the whole concept of the many “love stories” reminds me SO MUCH of the movie Love Actually. BTW, if you haven’t seen that movie, it’s a MUST-SEE! Awesome movie!
Just to let you know, there are A LOT of storylines going on at the same time. What’s really neat about this movie tho is how they CONNECT a lot of the characters to each other, even if only for like one scene. Kinda cool!
Probably my favorite storyline was the one involving Jennifer Garner & Ashton Kutcher. Their storylines don’t start out necessarily intertwined in the way you would think.
What really surprised me tho is Jennifer & Ashton. Didn’t think they’d have enough chemistry, but….they were really cute together! Wouldn’t have placed them together…
A lot of the movie is obviously…predictable. BUT there were definitely certain storylines/happenings that I DIDN’T expect.
Bradley Cooper & Julia Roberts’ storylines were probably one of the smallest, but yet they were both pretty vital to the whole scheme of things.
Anne Hathaway sure has come a long way since The Princess Diaries…she looks really good nowadays! Love her hair, and she looks so much more mature now!
I’ll just say that Anne’s “story” was…interesting.
I know there was a lot of bashing of Taylor Swift’s acting in the movie…but I personally thought she was QUITE entertaining. Yes, she plays a typical ditzy high schooler…REALLY typical…but she cracked me up! She’s obviously NOT an actor, but…I didn’t really care. She was funny! Taylor & Taylor made a cute couple. They even made a little joke about Tayllor Lautner’s body…LOL!
Some of the other “famous ones” in the movie didn’t have very big roles…especially Jessica Alba & Queen Latifah. But there were so many of them all over the place, it didn’t really matter.
If you want to just go to a very funny, cute & entertaining movie about many different love “situations,” see this movie! Don’t expect a lot, as it’s “nothing special” as far as original storylines go. But really…you’re not going to see this movie for that. It is more of a “chick flick” since the whole theme of the movie is LOVE…just fyi. But I think you could’ve figured that out just by watching the previews.
I will say that altho they’re very similar, Love Actually is a MUCH BETTER movie…but it doesn’t have the notable celebs that this movie does. But I will still recommend Valentine’s Day. Fun movie!
Grammy award-winning Taylor Swift has been getting quite a bit of criticism for a less-than-perfect (imo, WAY LESS than perfect) live performance at the Grammy Awards.
Not to sound mean, but…IT’S ABOUT TIME!
How long have I been saying how “under par” Taylor is when she sings live? It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who’s so bothered by it. Taylor’s performed MANY times at these awards shows…basically sounding just like she did at the Grammys this past weekend…but yet I didn’t hear/read about people making a big deal about it/criticizing her (which always amazed me actually). I’m guessing most of the criticism has come out mainly because Taylor did WIN 4 awards…one of them being for Country Female VOCAL performance.
In light of all the criticism, Yahoo! posted an article where her record label CEO says:
“She is the voice of this generation. She speaks directly to (her fans), and they speak directly back to her,” “This is not `American Idol.’ This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”
Yes, I will totally give Taylor credit for being a great ARTIST in the sense that she does write ALL her songs, plays the guitar/piano, etc. But SINGING-wise, which counts for A LOT of the package…umm…hello? You can call yourself a singer if you can’t actually sing. And to take a jab at American Idol…umm…have you HEARD all of the American Idol winners SING?!
Her record label goes on to blame technical issues as to why Taylor may not have sounded the best on Grammy night:
“We had a volume problem in the ear. So, she was concerned that she wasn’t able to hear everything in the mix,” Borchetta said. “That’s just part of live TV. … So you’re going to have difficulties on occasion. Unfortunately, on one of the biggest stages, we did have a technical issue. She couldn’t hear herself like she had in rehearsal.”
That MAY have definitely contributed to some pitch problems, but…have you ever watched any of Taylor’s OTHER live performances? Does she have technical difficulties at EVERY performance? Stop trying to blame technicality for just a lack in vocal ability.
Finally, sounding kind of annoyed about having to defend his “star,” the CEO goes on to say:
“If you haven’t seen her live performance, you’re welcome to come out as my guest to a Taylor Swift show and experience the whole thing, because it’s amazing. You can see her in her element. There’s a reason tickets are selling like they are.”
I’m SURE seeing her live at one of her concerts would be a lot better. But still…you can’t argue that altho Taylor is gifted in SO MANY musical ways…VOCALLY she really lacks. Considering how many peformances she does live, and for how many years now, you would think she would’ve gotten better…
THEN…
Kelly Clarkson posted on her blog a “letter” in response to Taylor’s record label’s comments (specifically the AI jab)…she had QUITE A FEW things to say:
Wow …..Dear Scott Borchetta,
I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit ‘the high notes’. Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is “I’ll kick butt next time” or “every performance isn’t going to be perfect” ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won’t go according to plan or work out and that’s okay.
Sincerely,
One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes
When Taylor Swift was posing with her 4 Grammy Awards, she accidentally dropped one of them and it broke into pieces!
Luckily it wasn’t HER ACTUAL Grammy award. It was a “stand-in” Grammy that is given to the winners, used just for pictures. They receive their actual awards (engraved with their name) much later…
Oh boy…just think if that really WAS her award…what a way to end such an amazing night for Taylor!
Just thought I’d write a bit about and post videos of some of the memorable performances from last night’s Grammy Awards show. The show was a whopping 3.5 hrs long, but it really was really entertaining…some GREAT performances, I must say:
LADY GAGA (with Elton John):
Lady GaGa got to open the entire awards show…and I have to say…I LOVED her performance! Say what you will about how CRAZY she is, but…that lady has got some TALENT!
BTW, the outfit she wore for the performance was actually kinda “subtle” and “toned down” for HER.
This performance was so AWESOME…Lady GaGa is so musical in the way she changes up her songs…she sounds great, and sings with so much soul!
And the duet with Elton John just made it even better! Mixing his “Your Song” with her “Speechless”…what a way to start the show! LOVE LOVE LOVED!
PINK:
Wow, Pink’s performance was almost like something out of a Cirque du Soleil show! Seriously.
She started out all covered up…but as the performance went on, she bared down to this:
Pink sang “Glitter in the Air,” from her current album Funhouse.
Her vocals were quite awesome…then when she got lifted up and started doing all the “acrobatics”…that was some crazy stuff. Not only that…then she got SOAKING WET and did spins up in the air…and STILL SINGING.
You really have to watch her performance to really understand and experience it. Quite impressive and totally memorable. Great job Pink!
BEYONCE:
Beyonce won many awards last night…all of them deserving. She’s had a great year…and “Single Ladies” was just EVERYWHERE this last year.
As usual, Beyonce puts everything into her performances, and this was no exception.
I was very disappointed that she sang If I Were A Boy tho. I mean, she wasn’t even nominated for this song! She should’ve sang Single Ladies or Halo. “Boy” definitely shows off her vocals more than the other songs, but…it just wasn’t “wow” enough for me.
THEN she went into Alanis Morissette’s “You Outta Know”…WHY THE FACE?! Where did THAT come from? At first I thought Alanis was gonna come out and they were going to duet…but NO. NO ALANIS. Just Beyonce. Odd and random, imo. (Altho I think she does this exact number in her live show…but still random.)
TAYLOR SWIFT (with Stevie Nicks):
Taylor Swift was a BIG winner last night. She won the big one: Album of the Year. Considering how much her album has sold…I’m not surprised…last night she won her first Grammy awards…and I was happy for her.
Her performance on the other hand? Where do I begin…
Taylor did a medley of a couple of her songs…and she had a surprise guest in Stevie Nicks…where they also sang one of Stevie’s songs:
OK. I have to say that when you’re NOMINATED AND ACTUALLY WIN Grammy awards…you need to PROVE YOURSELF as to WHY you deserve those awards! Taylor DID NOT prove herself AT ALL! Her performance was NOT GOOD! Man…I just can’t get over how amateurish she was…after all this time, all the live performing, she has NOT gotten better at singing. At all.
I don’t know if it’s because she gets so into the energy of performing live that she doesn’t FOCUS on SOUNDING good…but she needs to try to work on that! Pronto!
Bad enough she can’t sing her OWN songs very well…when she sang Stevie’s song with her…OMG. Make it stop! It was worse.
Taylor is always a tough one for me because she’s such a cute girl…cute cute cute personality. BUT cannot stand how she CAN’T SING LIVE. It really annoys me.
EARTH SONG – MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE:
They were hyping up this tribute to Michael Jackson at the Grammys for a while now…especially the fact that it was in 3D! It was actually a reallly nice tribute…and being able to see it in 3D was pretty awesome (thanks RT for picking up the 3D glasses for us! )
Whoever picked those 5 artists to participate in the tribute did a GREAT job! They were perfect people to do it…all of their vocals were just AMAZING!
L to R: Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion, Smokey Robinson, Usher, Carrie Underwood
The only thing I wished was that they each (especially Carrie & Celine ) would’ve been able to sing a bit MORE. Because there were 5 of them, each of their solo parts were pretty short and limited. Overall tho, it was a very sweet and touching tribute to MJ. Also a very meaningful message as well.
Just thought I’d post some pics of others on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. These awards are always known for ALL KINDS of fashion statements…and this year was NO exception.
Katy Perry
Supposedly Katy was going for an Indian theme…there’s ACTUAL metal on her dress.
Beyonce
Fergie
Pink
Taylor Swift
Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer definitely has lost a lot of weight! In her red carpet interview, she said she’s been working REALLY hard to look the way she looks now….
Lady GaGa
Umm…what can you say about Lady GaGa? We won’t expect anything less…ridiculous “art.” Wow. And look at those shoes!
